There's no way I'd order or buy any hat with "the turn". I tried wearing my Fed IVs that way a couple of times and it was so uncomfortable that I couldn't see myself wearing a hat that way....In any case, I will definitely make a point of sharing the Indy. I'm currently trying to figure out if I want the turn or not. I'm afraid it will trigger my OCD tendencies, but I'm afraid I will regret not getting it with the turn.
And you would be correct Sir. "New, off the rack", yes. "Ripped up"? I'd never buy them that way, and if/when my jeans get ripped or torn they become either "work around the house" pants or "lazy weekend lounging around the house" pants.I guess you don't wear new, off the rack, ripped up jeans, either!
Woohoo! That's purdy
What made it uncomfortable? To my understanding, the hat's position on your head should be the same, it's just creased off center. Why is that uncomfortable? There's no way I'd order or buy any hat with "the turn". Thanks for the advice Doug. I am sure that John's hats are pretty durable. My angle was more or less along the lines of not destroying a new hat to give it a distressed look. I know Harrison Ford beat the crap out of the original Indy to distress it. I have no intention of doing the eame, especially for the money spent on it. I prefer it to become "distressed" through my own adventures.Talk to John about that. I'm betting you don't need to worry about taking it easy with his Penman Raiders hat, and he'll reblock, refurb for free, too.
I have the Penman Indy Everyman hat, and I don't baby it at all.
You and I are on the same page. If any of my hats start to look distressed it's solely because of honest wear. Thanks for the advice Doug. I am sure that John's hats are pretty durable. Dobbs Twenty Homburg. It has narrow brim binding and all around slightly smaller proportions. It’s in excellent condition.

Stetson Grand Central in Silverbelly. The felt is very soft, much softer than my other recent open crown Royal De Luxe hats. The nicely done underwelt, anonymous with an accent stitch, gives it a felted edge appearance.
I watched this hat make a couple of cycles through ebay before I made the seller an offer. What I didn’t know, and it always my fault, is that this hat had received some artificial distressing. Thankfully, the distressing was limited to the ribbon: frayed bow...and not just the trailing edge, and some fading or “custom dyeing” of the ribbon. I thought about replacing the ribbon, but I think I’ll just move it on to a new home.

You're partially right. Yes, the "Raiders" hats were creased off-center, but if Harrison Ford had then worn the hats so their position on his head was normal the "pinch" would have been over his left eye. No, it's called "the turn" because Ford literally turned/rotated the hat on his head until the brim deformed into the shape he wanted. That's why the hats were creased off center--so the pinch would be centered roughly over his nose as it should be. This is also why the bows are so far forward; they didn't move the bows to try to hide the fact that Ford turned the hats. But when I tried "the turn" with my Feds the ovality molded into the hat bodies no longer matched the ovality of my head, and it made them uncomfortable. What made it uncomfortable? That makes complete sense. Thanks for clearing that up for me. That hat can be so wonky looking, I always assumed he wore it to fit. I will definitely have to take that into consideration with my Penman. I originally asked for it without the turn, but I'm having second thoughts. You're partially right. Graphite Gray Selentino Queen courtesy of @RandallRenshaw . This is my second Selentino, I have a velour Prince and it is ok.
In my opinion this is a much nicer hat, the felt is firm enough to hold it's shape and still soft and malleable. I am happy with it.
The hat appears to be more of a powder blue on my monitor. How is it in person? I have a Royal Stetson that looks like an OR but is not marked as such and has a ribbed crown ribbon but it is more of a blue-grey color but can look more powder blue in some light.I’m super stoked about this one ! Ever since seeing Eric’s @Short Balding Guy Cadet Blue Strat, I have been looking for a similar color in a Strat or OR. That’s probably my favorite hat on this forum
Well, finally found a RD OR in just pristine condition. Only a few small stains near where the crease was. Just put a simple dry bash in it for now until I decide how to try cleaning it. A few shots in different light:

And thanks for Eric’s advice on it.

I never have understood why anyone would buy a "new" item of clothing or attire that already looks like it came from a dumpster? LOL!There's no way I'd order or buy any hat with "the turn".
