I really like the liner and the coffee color on that one!

I picked this one up today. I agreed to meet the lady selling it at a train station way out in the sticks. I managed to give her the money, look at the hat, and get back on the same train within a minute. I'd have had to wait an hour for the next one otherwise. Quickest deal I've ever done [emoji4].

Anyway, a very stingy brim on this one. One of the many things I like about it though, apart from the feel of the felt, it's texture, and that great looking orangie-red liner, is the fact that it was originally sold at Petitgas in Copenhagen. The oldest hat store in Denmark, founded in the same year as Borsalino.

If memory serves me rightly, according to Stefan's excellent work on Borsalino labels, this one suggests the hat is from somewhere between 1961-1965. If I'm mis-representing your findings, Stefan, please feel free to put me right.

It's a bit small, which surprises me as the punti size 5 1/2 is usually a pefect Borsalino fit for me.

I'm hoping a turn on my hat jack will help.

I think it's going to be more of a brim up than brim down hat, but let's see.

Yes, the m. stands for "misto", meaning "mixed". Don't know if these mixes were all wool and fur or different coloured fur mixes (probably both). Your memory is fully intact, Steve: the label is consistent with the 1961-1965 period.

And to clarify...i like all creases and all crowns except open and everyone should have nice hats everywhere!

Thanks Stefan for confirming the intactness of my memory. At my age, it's a relief [emoji4].
I think you're right about what the mix means. This Borsa is a very thick and heavy felt with various hues of brown, grey, and green. It wouldn't surprise me if it was also a felt/wool mix.

Friday was a good day for hats (for me at least). The postman brought a package containing the results of another hat-exchange. @M Hatman was the purveyor this time (thanks, Mark). Let's start with the first one.

Stetson Stratoliner in light grey. I can see why this is such a popular model (even though the Open Road seems even more popular here). Very nice proportions and great hand to the felt. The only Stratoliners I've handled so far were made under license and not in my size. So well pleased with this one. It seems these hats sort of invite you to put a cattleman's crease in them, but it's in Europe now, so a center dent and side pinches will do, thank you. No label under the sweat. Sweatband and size tag point to the mid-fifties, right?

Date on that one is a bit of a conundrum....the sweat style and liner definitely (especially the liner) point to late 50's EARLY 60's. The sweat stamp and size tag point to mid-50's....
As for center dent and pinches, THAT is how the Strat was introduced and worn over here too!!! Unlike the Open Road which was introduced as a crossover Western/ Fedora, (and often but NOT always, shown in a rancher/cattleman crease) the Stratoliner was introduced and advertised and actually continues to be defined, as a thin ribbon Fedora.....I have NEVER seen a Strat (not to say someone has not done so) advertised OR worn with a Cattleman/Rancher crease....SO you are VERY American in your crease choice too!!
I am sooo glad you are pleased with your new hats!!! Have fun with that straw too!!! It has great bones!!!!

The seller listed this one as "A Stetson Hat". Open crown, 1/4 inch ribbon, 3 1/2 inch brim.

I picked this Mühlbauer straw up today. No idea when it's from, but it's obviously very new. It's alternative, funky, and probably not to everyone's taste, but I like it.
The colour is somewhere in between the red of the hat on its own and the brown as I'm wearing it under artificial light.
I think this straw is coming with me to England on Thursday [emoji4].

That's solid information on the way the Strat was advertised, Mark. And good to know I won't be carried off tarred and feathered for wearing it with center dent and side pinches.
As for it's age: I have that in common with the hat: sometimes I feel early to mid fifties and sometimes early sixties
