Förster "Saturn Pat.", 58cm, Wool, Crown Open 5 1/2 inches, Brim 2 1/4 inches, probably later 1930s. I believe this one was made by Max Förster Hat Factory Altenburg (Thuringia) so a first for me (as far as I know). The felt is stiff but works well with this type of form and has a very nice color + finish. Also an interesting sweatband finish effect.

This Royal Stetson was described as gray with a black band. It's sized at 7-3/8 LO so I was interested. IIRC, it went through one auction cycle with no bids no action at all. So when it came up again, I made a lower offer and it was accepted. The pictures look more brown, so even though the ad said gray I took a little chance on that. I don't generally believe "special" stories in ads but the hat looked really nice I moved on it.

Turns out this back bow beauty (brown ribbon, not black) is more of a very light brown-gray kind of color that I really like. The felt is very nice, it has a triple-stitch over welt, and it fits well so I'm happy! It came in a Dobbs box (seems my hats rarely come in the correct box; what's up with that crap???)

Someone along the went overboard trying to remove a sticker. Ughh. But the size tag puts this somewhere in the 40's, right?

Feathers gone and replaced for now with horse tail.

Too stingy for Joao at 3 5/8". Crown stands 5 1/2" in the front and 4 1/2" in the back as it's currently bent. A whim purchase at a moment of low resistance. Ha ha. Pretty much original condition, including the pinhole in the front where they had sewed the feathers on. Not sure what I have in mind for this.

Wow! Nice snag my friend!! I do love the color of this one. And a back bow!!! Welcome to the club...I would like a photo of the back bow. My back bows are from the early to late fifties. I have read that the style made a comeback during this era. Can't wait to see a head shot on this one!

GREAT HAT, WONDERFUL FIND!!! Based on the liner with plastic protector and the maple leaf in the Stetson Logo.....your hat is mid to late 50's. No shame with that date.....it really is a great hat!!
Wow,
M

Not old by any stretch, but here is a Dobbs "Broadstreet" that arrived needing a LOT love as it was in rough shape. Felt was overall in good shape but needed a complete re-blocking. I brought it to open-crown and went from there, also re-flanging the brim. I did the same to a 70's knox a couple of weeks ago too.....it needed some added stiffner (especially the brim, which was a rag).
The brown is the Dobbs and the grey the Knox.
Cheers,
M

They look great now. Some liner shots? How old is a Dobbs Broadstreet? Have not noticed this model name before.

Today, I present the "Olcott", a early century styled homburg created by Mike Miller. Named after the Hon. Ben W. Olcott, former Governor of Oregon (1919-1922) and a Regent of Oregon Agricultural College c.1913. I only get to wear it for a couple of photos as it is my 60th Birthday present, a week away. Like Bob, I get to take some photos, but have to box it back up til next week. I feel your pain Bob! Here is a quickie from the pick up in Eugene.
