Hückel (Weilheim) Chevreau, gray, size 57cm / measures 58cm. Probably late 1950s and with little to no wear. The felt color and finish are fantastic. Also great overall construction and detail work.

Just stunning. Amazing condition.
And the bunny in the logo-just makes sense. why didn't more brands have some kind of rabbit in the logo. Seems like they are the main ingredient in many felts ( I don't make a distinction between Coneys, Hares and Rabbits, they're all bunnies to me).

Stetson Open Road From the mid to late 50's i think. Let me know if I'm off here, not sure how long they used that liner logo.

5 5/8 crown, 2 7/8 brim

Same liner as Jimmy the Lid's '56

2 inch deep sweatband, post '52 crest, manilla long oval tag

Took the liner out to reblock and give it my own crease

Cleaned up nice. Will be a good working summer into fall hat. I'll probably not sew the liner back in for a few weeks. Somehow that makes me think the hat is cooler or breathes better

Cavanagh

This is one of the more interesting Cavanagh hats I've come across. Not sure of the age but I'm guessing circa 30s or older. It has a 1 3/4" brim with bound edge and a 5 5/8" crown depth. The liner has the older "Park Avenue at 47th Street New York" Cavanagh crest. The reeded sweatband has a taped back seam. There is no information on the sweatband except the initials "VA". I'm thinking the original sweatband may have been replaced at some point but I'm not sure. Did Cavanagh ever make rather generic leather sweatbands such as this without the Cavanagh name embossed or stamped on it? Looks like the hat can be worn with the brim up or cocked down in front, open crown or a center dent, pinched on the front or on the sides or no pinch at all. It seems to look the most natural with the brim up. It is the shortest brimmed pre-40s Cavanagh I've come across. Maybe someone knowledgeable about Cavanagh hats can shed some more light on the hat. It's hard to tell from the photos but the stitching on the bound edge is a light green.

That one looks great! Even with a T-shirt.

TommyK your new old Stetson is a beauty. It's in great shape.

Purplesage that's a cool stingy Cavanaugh.

That hat has been monkeyed with in a major way.

Carouselvic is right, the brim has been cut down at some point, probably in the 1960s, though it's a 1940s hat. Most likely it once sported a Cavanagh Edge. The brim binding is definitely not original. The sweatband was probably replaced at the same time, as it should have the name of the Cavanagh Associate retailer on it.

The mark on the backside of the crown looks like someone put a iron to it without a pressing cloth in between. To me it looks like the work of a inexperienced hatter or novice. But I'm sure it was once a very nice hat.

Not sure if it's an iron mark on the crown since it is perfectly square. I haven't seen an iron that shape before. In any case it may come out if I have the hat cleaned. It may have sported a Cavanagh edge at one time but I don't know for sure. I am pretty sure that the sweatband was not original. I'll have to look for a Cavanagh with a "5205" block to see what it may have once looked like.

I have a similar Cav with a sweatband that is not imprinted other than for the owner initials. The seam is sewn rather than taped. It is a homburg with narrow edge binding. Yours might have started off life as a homburg too and gotten sixtyized.

Another mystery hat!:eeek: Whoever stitched the binding did a good job as far as I can tell. It's very uniform and tight. I've looked it over real close and can't seen any obvious defects. I sold a Homburg a while back that had the same block number. It was previously posted in the classifieds and the HCA Block threads. I must have deleted the photos because they are no longer there. How can you tell this is a 40s vice a 30s Cavanagh?
