People says put it in a plastic bag with newspapers inside and let it be there for some days.Only drawback to this one was that the original owner was a smoker and it reeks like cigarette smoke ,I am wonder if anyone can recommend a treatment to get rid of the smell or do you think it was subside over time ?
+1 - not least as the parties, who are directly involved, don't have a problem over this issue
Scottf was a complete gentleman about the whole situation, and as I note, the hat really is a nice one. I wanted to acknowledge that publicly!

+1 re this is fftopic: if parties have a disagreement such as this, take it offline into the messaging functionality of the Lounge and leave the rest of us out of it. Sound good?
...You were never in it until you placed yourself in it. I won't be responding to any more of the drama. Please check your message inbox.

but that is the nature of internet forums and this one is still a lot more civil than most. Actually, probably the most civil of any I've participated on.
You are absolutely right, this is an enjoyable, civilised site. I haven't made any further comment before, as per the mods instructions, just let the mood cool. but now seems the right time to say sorry. It wasn't my hat and therefore, not my problem. Apologies to you and to other members for not keeping my nose out of the affairs of others.I've been a member here long enough to know how quickly those who are not involved will take a thread south, and I am certain that was not your intent, as you never even posted my name or handle, but that is the nature of internet forums and this one is still a lot more civil than most. Actually, probably the most civil of any I've participated on.
I just wanted to thank you for this post. I have a bit of an obsession for Para/Bali buntal straw and all the contemporary examples I have seen are crap. So this leaves me the only option of being on the lookout for vintage Parabuntals which seem few and far between. I missed out on a recent Ebay listing though I bid higher than I thought it should go for and lost to a fellow lounger. So I was excited when I read your post about "the body is from a 60 year old batch." I immediately contacted Mr. Moore hoping their might be more from the batch and indeed there are. I believe they are all blocked similarly which is fine with me judging from your posted photos. Perhaps you have retrieved it by now from the post office and have lived with it for a few days. I hope to complete my transaction with Buckaroo in the next few days. I have a nice fur felt of theirs which I got from EBay in off white with a black brim binding which. though a little stiffer than I prefer, I like a lot.
It was 12 degrees here in Western Massachussetts last night so its not quite Straw Season yet but without your post and photo I wouldn't have had a clue so again, many thanks.
