There seems to be a post holiday drop in hat buys. I have not noticed many new hat posts over the last month.
Did the holidays drain everyone's shopping account? :)

I've got my third order in to Mr Fawcett, and I'm awaiting a second Jonathan Richard cap from my neighbors to the north (Bencraft Hats).

Doing my bit for the economy.

On Joel Tunnah's suggestion, I too went north yesterday to Bencraft and purchased two Jonathan Richard's Donegal Tweed caps. I have always
liked the hat pix you post, Joel, and also have some fine Art Fawcett hats. I guess that Brooklyn New York might be the town which is the benchmark of hat taste.

I just received a new Akubra Federation Deluxe in black. I was waiting for colors other than the Loden before I ordered one. I'd hoped it would be offered in dark gray, but black is OK too.

That's a nice looking boater you got there.
Boaters are the one hat I can't pull off unless I'm dressed full vintage.

Thanks. I've never worn one and have no idea whether I'll pull it off or not. I just had to get it for several reasons--1) It's a Cavanagh, which is my last name; 2) I have an old photo of my grandfather in a hat much like it; and 3) it was cheap. :D

The bit I like best is the ribbon. I don't see many boaters with that bow treatment. Now if only I could find another vintage boater- the rare type with the fedora style brim.

I got a Bailey 50/50 from Aaron yesterday. I wanted a dark brown hat and chose this one instead of a Federation. I think I made the right choice. It's a very nice hat.

I await the arrival of these two;

One is IDed as being from "Simon Hats, New York" & one from "Jay's hats, New York" neither of which I am familiar. They sure do appear to be a couple of 30's-40's taper-free, straight crowned vintage beauties...we'll see, eh?

Yeah, the ribbon treatment was the other reason I bought it. Forgot to mention that. :)

I've never seen a boater with a fedora-style brim before. Wouldn't that be more like a straw porkpie? Boaters are usually pretty stiff; I wonder how they achieved a brim like that.

I saw one in an antique shop in Maine. The brim had the front down and back curled. They were were blocked in, but other than that, it was exactly like a boater. No milan or panama here. stiff, broad weave. I think it was a 6-3/4 or 6-7/8. Pretty tiny and they wanted something like eighty bucks for it, so it stayed there.

I'd bet the reason they're so uncommon is because the brim in front doesn't snap back up, so if you put it down not on its crown, the front of the brim could be snapped off.

My newest has not come in yet.I will certainly post it when it arrives. Maybe I will post a bunch of hats that I haven't shown yet.

Thanks Dean, Hello right back to you.
Feraud, It says it is brown but it doesn't look that way to me. It looks gray. The ribbon does look brown though. We will have to wait till next week to find out for sure. It has a nice shape.
Very nice RBH,yours too has a great shape and it looks pretty clean from the photo.
