Please help me find these rollers!

Hello! I am new to this forum and have had a great time looking through all of the old posts. I was wondering if anyone could help me, though - I am looking for the soft rollers that are seen on page 24 of the Vintage Hairstyling book by Lauren Rennells. They are the leopard fabric ones that tie closed. I have looked at the fabric rollers that have the wire ends that bend in once the curl is rolled, but I really do not want those. Any help anyone can offer me would be greatly appreciated!

You know you can make your own using strips of fabric. That is how it was done back in the day.Just roll you hair around strips of cotton fabric and tie them off. Easy way of rolling you you can sleep comfortably.

Just took a look at the book -- soft rollers or "pillow rollers."

I see them all the time in CVS around here. I almost bought a set, but decided to make my own instead. It didn't work out good for me lol

The ones in the book appear to be more than just a strip of fabric. It looks as if there is foam, or something else stiff, in the middle to give them a bit more shape and make the curl thicker.

I think the ones at CVS are either the ones that snap closed (as in the link above) or have the wire ends that you bend inwards after you are done rolling.

I've made my own, by threading my old rag rollers (torn up tshirts) through the holes in the center of my old foam rollers, so now I have firmer foam centers that tie. I like them

That is a good idea! My only question is, do the foam rollers tend to dehydrate your hair and/or make it frizzy?

Yes, I have them, they are called pillow rollers. I bought them at my local drug store here in Canada. The only thing about them is that for some reason the material covering them can cause a lot of static in my hair, but they are comfy to sleep in. The "pillow" part is foam, and they have wire in the ends so you sort of "twist" them shut like a twist-tie. The only other thing is they don't usually come in various sizes - just one size, or at least mine did.

They don't look like they have wires in them, if you look at the way they are tied in a knot. Do you like the ways yours create a curl?

I can't take credit for that one... it was suggested on another thread to sew the foam cores into little slip cover things, but that requires more effort, and more fabric cutting. I wanted to use what I already had, so I grabbed a crochet hook and got to work. I don't find that the foam rollers dry out my hair or gives me frizzies at all, but I have odd hair. I'm the girl everyone is uber jealous of because my naturally pin straight hair never curls or frizzes, even in Florida - it's always smooth; dry sets fall out in a handful of hours, and wet sets don't dry b/c it's too long. It is the curse of the straight-haired girl to always wish for curls

Just an FYI...I just took a look at my copy and the leopard print ones you're looking at have wires in them. If you read the little paragraph beside them it says that they have wire in them to help keep them in place. I think it just looks like they tie.

I think you're best bet is to just make your own. Especially if you have sponge rollers already I think it'd be an easy peasy project and then you'd be happy with your custom rollers and not spend much money.

I have them! I got them at Ulta. I sleep in them everynight. But they DO have wire in them. I have never seen any of that style that don't.

Well I love them, they are much better than my previous ones that I have bought at Target. They are not perfect, the wire, with much use, begins to pop out the ends. This happend with my previous ones as well but much earlier in my use of them. Also after you take them out you hair doesn't sick to them like my old ones so that is a big plus. I think they are the best of this type of curler. I hope that helps, if you have any specific questions I am more than happy to answer them as well

Yes they definitely have wires, they just give the illusion of a cloth tie. But, the wires make it really easy to secure. I like the look, except sometimes I need smaller curlers around my head, so I usually use the pillow rollers for the back of my head when I want the curl to be a bit looser. They have a similar look to sponge rollers, I find.
