Sucks having to alter a 1K worth of jacket... Not saying this is Dave's fault, I don't know the numbers you've provided him with. Then again, you have said that even the measurements you have specified are off so I don't know.

Anyhow, having the jacket tailored can be done but I wouldn't go thru with it, not with the jacket like that. The tailor won't be able to take anything from the side panels. Maybe a little but the side/underarms panels are not very wide to begin with so it's the back panel that's gonna get cut. She is going to have to re-do and resize the arm holes since it has to be taken in at the side seams and since she doesn't have the patterns Dave used, she's gonna have to improvise. Sleeves will then need to be open and re-cut, meaning taken down entirely and re-stitched altogether to some point and then there's a chance the neckline will need to be re-cut, too. I can tell you right away you're gonna end up with overlapping stitching at the bottom hem if she won't sew perfectly through the existing needle holes and that ain't gonna happen.

So yeah, you can have it done but you're gonna end up with the jacket that's been visibly altered and if even the altered fit won't work for you, you're stuck with a jacket you won't be able to sell for what you can get for the jacket now. I am sure she's a great tailor and can make a perfect job but in all probability, alterations are going to be visible and this isn't the jacket you'd want that on, I imagine?

If you don't like the fit, my suggestion is, sell it while it's fresh and... Go for a remake? Or something else. From someone else.

You guys are right of course. I need to really think it through. Thank you all for the advice, I hadnt thought of selling it and am not sure what Id get to replace it. Without trying something on its a huge gamble for me (im sure you all as well)...

Pdxgeo, I would keep it as it is. It looks really great on you and this is actually how a proper MC jacket should fit. And it will only look better with time. You need some room for layering and warmth. Sleeves are perfect, so is the length.

Thank you Monitor. I have a couple of pics with a sweatshirt and it is better but undoubtedly larger than I would buy if i were trying on sizes. It is a common issue for me at 5'7" and 147lbs...

I will probably keep it and wear it less than i would were it perfect

This is so lousy. You deserve that perfect jacket. You pay so much money and receive a jacket you never would've bought had you tried it on in a store. . . I wish makers would make triple sure the jacket is going to be good before actually making it. I mean, simply asking you to measure another jacket that (you think) fits you well to make sure the numbers will be correct would minimize room for error. It's not like everyone magically knows how to take proper measurements of themselves. . .

The fit jacket is the best idea I've seen. Norshor was doing them in canvas which sounded like a great idea for a smaller business to do it.

I've often wondered if it would be a good idea to send in another jacket that fits perfectly to give the custom maker an idea of what fits you well. My last order was through Thurston Bros. and I really like the fit jacket technique.

I agree on the fit jacket idea. Both times I have purchased from Johnson Leathers, they have sent a fit jacket. Works well in my opinion.

sad to hear the maker can't fix it especially at that price point and in this niche market segment.

I agree with the idea to send a jacket that fit you the way you like whenever you want to make a new jacket, I bet if the maker has any doubt about your measurement he would make it a little bigger just to be safe, a little here and there would make a jacket look way too big especially when new, perhaps with little wear the area on the back will naturally form gusset like creases across the back panel like this )/A\( or )X( , and it will look fine

I think you need to have this jacket remade or fully refunded. Fit aside, there are aspects of the jacket that look far too incongruent and that's just not acceptable given the price you've paid, and the level of craftsmanship you should expect. DD should be sent these pics in order to make this jacket right.

What elements are incongruent? Ive owned a Schott moto or 3 when I was like 18 - 25 but was never concerned with proper fit so they were likely massive on me as well...

I think the belt loops look to be at vastly different points on the jackets body and the bottom hem is taking strange angles. If this is due to having to cinch the belt in all the way... It's just not right. I really think you should push hard to have this made to the specs you need. You can use these pics as reference for DD and you'll end up 100% happier.

Fully agreed. I didn't know if I should say something or not but now that ton mentioned it, send this jacket back with a vengeance and demand a full refund. And not because of the fit. This is an amateur level in every aspect, and at that price range. . . I don't know, man. It's just completely wonky and off! Send it back and get either a Schott or one of the Japanese repros. I mean, there's literally no comparison!
