@Monitor I would definitely recommend to visit a store which offers FCL jackets or trying to find someone who can show one of their jackets in person. If you're searching a type of HH offered by LW, then FCL isn't the right choice despite the leather thickness of 2mm (FCL Leon) as the overall weight of a 4oz LW compared to FCL 2mm HH is totally different - FCL is definitely more like a mid-weight HH jacket (similar to Aero Vicenza I would say). The HH itself is very smooth and soft and I really like their silk lining (I would say similar as LW's silk lining). The construction and stitching quality are flawless - they also have high and accurate stitching count like LW. The sizing can be tricky - even trickier than other Japanese makers (Freewheelers, Rainbow Country, The Few to name a few) as IMO the shoulder - chest proportions are not really constructed for Europeans....mine fits me well but could be better. The zippers are also different compared to other high-end makers...not sure if quality is worse, but they are different. If you're looking for a mid-weight, easy pull-off, everyday wear jacket, then it's the way to go, but check out for the leather and size - the leather is not everyones taste whereas the aging / teacore effect of FCL for sure is unprecedented IMO.

There's just no way I'm ever going to handle one of their jackets anywhere near where I live but maybe some day, if I visit UK or a decent country like that.

Thank you for the info! And see, that's what I've been wondering about and I think the FCL either doesn't understand how metric system works or imperial 'cause there's no way their HH is 2mm. That'd make it 6 or 7oz and would effectively make them the only maker in the world to use such heavy leather, another thing that doesn't fit with everyone's experience with their jackets who describe them the same way you just did, as easy to wear, mid-weight, everyday jackets.

To make things even more confusing, they've recently began advertising on Facebook their trucker styles as being made in 3mm leather so something definitely is getting lost in translation.

But regardless, I don't expect their jackets to be overly heavy anyway and the teacore / creasing effect unique to this hide is all I'm after.

They seem to be overdoing it with marketing... so maybe there is a spot where all the leather folds reach 2 or 3mm?

FC, Langlitz, two biggest hype. one promotes jacket by apply their Photoshop skill, another one attracts his customer by offering ridiculous price, and if you returned the remake jackets you will not allow to order from us again.

FC can be all over the place but the 60's Schott they make, aka Leon, looks truly great on any random WAYWT photo so it's not just photoshop skill. Check out StyleForum, the jacket's real popular there and those few guys there that wear it regularly already got it to look close to how FCL advertises it. It's a great piece, I'm sure of it.

really not sure if you are serious or joking man :D, SF guys bought them tight, at that size it looks somewhat OK body length wise but sleeve length is short higher than wrist bone , there is also someone there bought it in the what more sensible size (or TFL fit), it looked like a crosszip car coat on him. to me it has a shape of MC jacket but with a silhouette and sleeve to body length ratio of modern long type3 denim jacket.:D

I like their double slant pockets racer jacket though, that is very cool

I was actually thinking about another 50's HB...but in boring black steer, standard cuff, quilted nylon liner and simple back with single point yoke and shoulder gussets. Throat latch and storm cuffs w/ the standard collar. That collar has kind of grown on me a bit.

Yeah, I don't really get the hated al ot of folks have for it - it's the basic shirt-collar type jacket colla,r and it's been around forever. ~There's a lot to be said for utilitarianism sometimes - I'm actually very taken with the deliberately stripped back Aero Everyman model.

^ I'll never forget the time I saw Iggy play Cabaret Metro in Chicago in 1996.

I saw Iggy live in 99 and 2000. Absolute rock and roll monster. When comes the time, he'll go down standing, like a rock and roll CuChulain!

I was guessing Schott allowed them to use their design but now I wonder how do they get away with this? No way Langlitz said that's okay, you can copy our jacket.

Basic IP law, as others have said. The law assumes that clothing design is inherently and exclusively utilitarian, therefore it cannot be protected in copyright.

Well, that's all true but Iron Heart actually had legal problems with Levi's but managed to settle things out.

Blackadder covers this well - Levis can't protect their Type III design, but the law on registered TMs - of which their back pocket stitching design is one, among others - is watertight. That's where Iron Heart fell down.

Clothing design can not be protected:
"In its simplest terms, trademark law protects against people trying to confuse customers into thinking they're buying something that they're not. Trademark law is not about prohibiting copied designs; it's about prohibiting copied “labels” that mislead consumers into believing a copied design is an original."

Bingo.

I really like two my Simmons Bilt jackets , both of them in Black goat.

And yes , they are "copies". One of the J100 café racer that damn near EVERYONE has "copied" from a 1960's pattern.

The other , Simmons Bilt call the Nebraska , is a copy of a late 50's /early 60's collared straight zip motorcycle jacket.

"There is nothing new under the sun" to coin a phrase.

For what it's worth I also have an Aero Highwayman , itself a "copy" of a 1930's USA work jacket I do believe.

As noted above, contoversy there was not the copying of the jackets - anyone with a mind to it could perfectly legally buy one of everything Aero make, deconstruct them, make their own patterns, et voila. The Simmons Bilt - or Alexander Leathers, as they then were - company manager, as was, had directly copied Aero's patterns, which were protected by law. In the end it seems that AL/SB didn't prove to be a threat to Aero's business, which is probably why they escaped a civil suit over breach of copyright in the patterns. The criminal case applied to grand scale theft of actual product, and has been weell documented elsewhere.

if you win, don't that mean the losing side would pay your lawyer, or reimburse you the cost of your legal trouble?

That's the ideal, but generally it's down to the discretion of the relevant judge in most all legal systems.
