I never thought I'd actually see one of these in person, much less have one in my humble little shop, but here she is. I have hats to make so I can't dive into the restoration right now, but I hope to return this conformateur to it's original glory. A big thanks to our very own Dr. Max for rescuing this old beauty from the "box of oblivion" and for thinking of me as her new caretaker.

I’m not surprised in the least.
Max is a very kind and generous gentleman.

Except for the part of the conversation where Max told Rick, "I have done this favor for you. One day, I may ask you for a favor..."

Seriously, Max, that's a good turn.

Thank you, Jim, but it was a no-brainer. I felt guilty every time I saw it in my safe, knowing that Rick could actually use it. Besides, Rick paid me what it cost, and is making three of his excellent hats for me, so it was a win-win all around.

The Sombrero Cordobés block is waiting for the finish to dry before it starts to earn it's keep. The old boy on the right is a much larger version of the same style that I just didn't have the heart to cut down to the required size.

It might be the only 100% beaver Sombrero Cordobés when you're done with it, Rick.
I have looked everywhere online, including Spain, and went to the oldest stores in Madrid, Alicante, and Barcelona. They recommended I call a famous store in Sevilla, where the woman who answered the phone tried to convince me that beaver hats were banned in Europe.
All they had was wool and rabbit, not even wild hare.
Then I contacted Hufvud and Agnoulita. Mikel said he didn't have a block and Mr. P. said he only had rabbit.
So, Sombrero Cordobés 100% beaver felt lovers of the world, flock to Phoenix Hat Co.!
