Warlock's former home sold for nearly £1m

A HISTORIC hall that was home of one of the most controversial composers of the 20th century has sold for almost £1m.

Grade II listed Cefn Bryntalch Hall, in Abermule, near Newtown, was home to songwriter and music journalist Peter Warlock, whose family had lived at the 19th century Georgian-style property for generations.

Warlock experts say interest in him lives on because he lived the lifestyle of a tragic rock star with an appetite for breaking moral taboos before celebrity excess became fashionable.

He dabbled in black magic, was a conscientious objector and died at the age of 36 with suicide suspected by some experts and others speculating he was murdered.

Only a year into his marriage to wife Minnie Channing their relationship broke down and later he lived openly with other women and spent years drinking heavily during a dark, hedonistic spiral.
