I went though many changes on my hat stands. First was the horizontal. Some didn't like these because if your hat was soft and floppy it would pop out the ceases. Then we went with the slant top. This worked well for preventing the creases from popping out but there was still people who wanted the horizontal tops.
Now I have tops being made so you can put them on either horizontal or with the slant. No hinge at all. So, nothing o wear out at all. You will also can change them from one way to the other.
The steams are 8 inches high with the base at 7 inches and the top piece is 4 inches. I hope that helps.
