One Down, One To Go

I had some uninterrupted free time to do some painting yesterday on my "Go For Broke" pin-up girls jacket. I decided to make her a redhead...just 'cause I like redheads. I think I'll call her Ginger. ;)

Yeah, 442', I'm still game for painting more. Had a run on 'em recently. Have a few ideas for others still to do for myself/as samples but got busy with spring activities.

All mine are completely invented by me or the customer. Not authentic WW2 style or subject matter. Several have been for TFL members, obviously. I, and they, are happy with them - but I have to admit I really like your (and others) WW2 Nose Art jobs better than my stuff. :)

FWIW, $400 is the typical 'high' for what I do.

Here's the recent ones :D :

Here's the sketch (taped up on the jacket) of one I'l be doing on a biker jacket. The Joker, based on 'yours truly'. In the final, I'll have purple gloved hands on each side of the face as if 'J' is climbing right out of a playing card.

Gene, your mojo is plenty good, you've got the planes, names and dames already. :eusa_clap All you need is someone to commission a jacket. ;)

I luv your naughty Betty Page on the harp...:eusa_clap ;) :p

Holy Schmoley, Gene. You make me look like I'm painting jackets with a busted crayon. That's incredible. I love it. Thanks for posting that. :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

You are being way too modest...you paint with the best of them. :eusa_clap

MEMPHIS BELLE Tribute Jacket

My russet, horsehide, Real McCoy Dubow, "Memphis Belle" Jacket finally arrived. I'm not familiar with the artist, it's signed, "Evans". The story of the Memphis Belle is well known by all. This artist put the name of the city for each of the Belle's 25 mission marks. The original B-17 had a Belle on each side, the right side wearing a blue babydoll and the left side a red babydoll. This artist used the original Petty gatefold as his source, with her wearing a diaphanous black babydoll and white heels. (the original was a blonde, now she's a redhead...what's up with that ? I'm lookin' at my three painted jackets, and they're all ginger...:eusa_doh: lol http://dortch.supremeserver5.com/images/pinup march 05/pettybelle gatefld1.JPG

hey 442, I am really interesting in your stuff! how much do you charge for a paint job like that?? :)

I don't paint any more, I had surgery done to improve my eyesight and lost the ability to focus up close.

I have a professional commercial artist friend who is painting flight jackets...he's finishing one up now. I'll post pics when he completes the job. He charges, $ 400 for a nose art paint job.

I will work with him on the design...he'll do the painting. I'm not charging anything for my participation in the commission, if you can't tell, I just like painted jackets. [huh]

ps- Another forum member, Harp Player Gene, will also take jacket painting commissions.

Go For Broke A-2

I've completed the paint job on my "Go For Broke" 442 RCT pin-up jacket. I bought this jacket off eBay and thought the green colors were due to bad lighting. When I received it, I found out the posted pics on eBay were accurate. When you get a lemon, make lemonade, so I decided to do a GI Jane pin-up jacket. I was thinking of adding the units in the 442 Regimental Combat Team, and a list of their awards somewhere on the jacket.

Very nice...I like it, ya gotta love those Vargas inspired girls. The layout and lettering is uncomplicated and elegant, the execution is period yet professional. :eusa_clap

Oh wow, you guys are killin' me. As an incentive for losing a bucket load of weight, I'll be buying another jacket when I've reached my goal. I've been trying to decide what kind of jacket to buy and finally made a decision -----and then you show me this. Now I'm going to have to make a new decision. I was going to get a M422 and AVG it up, but now I either want another A2, a B10 or a B15 and paint it up 8th AF style. And now I'm gonna have to choose the right artwork. Decisions, decisions, desitions, AARRGGGHH!!!

In all seriousnes guys, those jackets are gorgeous. I'm glad you guided me back to the ETO. That's where my sentiments really lie. Phenomenal work. :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

Behind the 8 ball,..
My next.

I've got a nice M422 knock-off that is getting a real zipper installed in place of a hideous plastic original. It's just begging for another AVG themed design. I think I'll do the original Disney tiger, the one in the shield with the lightning bolt.
