Is that 5-1/2" as creased, or open crown? In any event, it sure is a gorgeous lid and makes a proud statement. Drool factor of at least 110 on a 100 point scale.

I notice this does have the decorative brim stitch
I was discussing the possible timeline of when this was added recently with @alanfgag
I guess this hat tosses our theories out the window.
I have an early 40s model without it and a 50s model with it.... now to see a 30s model with it...
Did it go away then return ?
Can you shed any light on this Vic?

I stayed out of that conversation because I was not sure and did not want to take sides. But now that you asked.....I believe the stitch went away in the war years because it was decorative and served no real purpose. I have a ******* without the stitching that I can show tomorrow. Just my two cent, I don't have to be right about this.....

Good eyes, I didn't notice. It could have come and gone or it could have come in different styles at the same time. It's hard to know the entire dinosaur without all the bones but it sure is nice to have a new one to add to the puzzle.
