Hey, I just went shopping and picked upa cute pair of overalls. and by my primitave dating skills I would guess early 50s. but I am kind of mental when it comes to dating.

So I have been looking for PICTURES of overalls for women from that time and cant find any?
How often did women wear them?
Do you own vintage overalls?

plz. help!

Oh! I found the cutest denim overalls I would date to 40s yesterday but they were too shortwaisted for me! I almost cried in the dressing room. They were worn for yard work or things of that nature certainly, but also probably for playclothes in a very casual setting :)

Patterns are always a good resource to find pictures. I just made a pair of 40's overalls. I keep meaning to take a picture for the "look what I made" thread. If I can get it together, I will try to take a picture of the pattern too and post it here. I guess that doesn't help you for 50's, but it is a jumping off point.;)

I recommend checking out the "Everyday Fashion" series. I believe I have seen overalls in them before. A library or often a bookstore like Barnes and Noble should have them. Overalls were used for women from the very late 20's on, but you'll have to really look at the cut of the trousers to tell when they're from. Usually they were twill, but in the late 20's and 30's they could be in vibrant tones and of lightweight fabrics since they were often used at the seaside.

OK, they are a green cotton something. thick cotton. Not denim.
but they have gold-coloured metalish buckles to close the top.
and it has a back Metal zipper.
and they are wide leg (why i was leaning to 40s)
they have a tag in the back that says "sears jr bazaar"
they are high wasted. and seem very tailored.

DAMN DAMN! pardon the french... but DANG IT.
I did some searching on the tag. and they mostly made items in the 60s and 70s.
they did a few things in the 50s though. so maybe there is hope?!?

I hate hte 60s and 70s :(

Sounds 70's. In the 70's there was a revival toward 30's and 40's styles. I'd still hang onto them if you like them, though- if they stumped you the chances are you could wear them and no one would know the difference!

There is a girl on Ebay that makes & sells the cutest 40's overalls, she is in New York ! She has a pair on there now,
i'm sure if you do a search for 1940s VINTAGE STYLE TIE -UP OVERALLS you can find them.
You can compare the ones you saw to these and get a better idea if they are 40's.

Ooh! Those are adorable, but pricey! I'd rather make them :) Anyone know what pattern she's using? I love the tie back!
