Wont know exactly what it is till it gets here and I can see the whole sweatband, but I won what appears to be one of the old Houston tx American Hat Company "American Fedora" hats from a Goodwill auction. Looks to be in nice condition. It may just be a western, but I dont remember their westerns having less than 4-4-1/2 brims. Im guessing this ones a 3". will have to wait till it gets here to pair a new ribbon color, but it will prob get a 3/4" ribbon and Campaign bow

Fresh off the Fed Ex truck via a California Goodwill auction. A Houston Texas American Hat Company 4x hat (70s?) Couldnt really tell from the pictures exactly what it was but it looked to be in nice condition and I took a shot. Kinda hoped it might have been one of the somewhat rare American Hat Co "American Fedoras", but its definately a bit more of a western hat. 3" brim and a 5" crown with a nice diamond crease. Even has the traditional Texas " Like Hell Its Yours- this hat belongs to..." owner label from The Hat Store in Houston Texas. Pretty nice smooth fur felt... definately NOT a wool western. Stiff but not overly thick.

Came to me without a ribbon so I temporarily threw on a western-ish band I had hanging around the parts bin. Thinking about a 3/4" or 7/8" Grosgrain with a Campaign bow. Really thinking a Khaki ribbon would look better than a dark contrasting band. Just a tad bigger and stiffer than what I usually wear, but I like it! Ill call it a successful auction. Came in Fed Ex so it took 3 days instead of the normal USPS 3 weeks lol. Nice Souvenir from 1970s Houston and the Urban Cowboy days. Whomever Phil the original owner is, he took good care of this one

I guess I won't tell the story of how me being cheap... resulted in ordering a cowboy hat off of eBay (imported from the CCP) that looked great in the pics... but when it arrived it was something one might by their 5 year old boy to dress up with on halloween

I've learned that with some things, being cheap ends up being a total waste of money

How's this for a victory? Browsing one of my favorite resale shops online, I come across 2 separate listings with generic black fedoras photos attached for a new "Black Borsalino Bucket Hat - 7 1/8", my size, for $26.99. Curious as to what they describe as a "bucket hat" by Borsalino could be and not wanting to leave one behind, I grab both. What do I get for my $54 + shipping?

1. Marengo Stingy Fur Felt Black Fedora - Borsalino with an original Borsalino tag attached with price showing $375
2. Georgio Fur Felt Hat by Borsalino - with an original Borsalino tag attached with price showing $375

The Stingy Marengo -
Material: 100% animal hair (rabbit; fur felt)
Brim width: about 4.5 cm (approximately 1.77 inches)
Height of crown: about 10 cm (approximately 3.94 inches)

The Georgio -
Material: 100% animal hair
Brim: approx. 5.5 cm (2.16")
Height of crown: approx. 11 cm (4.33")

Crazy, right? I placed a lining in the Georgio which I am keeping and am putting the Marengo Stingy Brim up for sale, with the price tag still attached, for a sales price lower than anywhere else I have seen it online. Not bad for a flyer on a couple of bucket hats.
