Thanks! Other than the damage to the reed casing it appears to be in very good condition. Usually the lighter color old Velours have felt damage but this one appears to be ok. Looking forward to its arrival.

Not a hat, but hat related.

No other information other than it was found in a home in South Norwalk. No idea of the age or its usage. The print in the bottom right says "Beetz Co." There was a P. F. Beetz hat store in New Haven, so could possibly relate to that. Could also be a sign-making company by that name, but I haven't found a record of one.

I bought a Stetson & a Biltmore last week at Hats Of Style @ The Oaks Mall in Thousand Oaks, CA...great selection and helpful staff. The only gripe is when I got back to AZ I noticed the box for the Stetson was not the right box for the hat. The box was for a different style & size. I will be more careful next time. I only mention this because when I go to sell it someday it may decrease the value.

I've found a ladies' Panama hat on Etsy that might be just the ticket: Peck and Peck, dated as late 1940s to 1950s, the shape I want and with a 23" inner circumference! (I have a fat head.) Since I know next to nothing about vintage hats, I'm wondering if it is acceptable to remove the feathers?

I'm also wondering if it would be wise to have a "beater" panama for outdoor events where it could rain, and save a vintage hat like this for special occasions?

Nice hat, feathers can go if you buy it, I kind of like them. It is always a good idea to keep a panama out of the rain.

This is my favorite hat out of my vintage hat collection. This baby was given to me by my great grandfather along with two other ones. Oh what a find this hat is such a beauty! The brim is perfect width for my taste. The color is a perfect shade of grey. The bow and ribbon are a nice and thin. This is probably the thinnest I'd like. My Eagle (another hat my great grand father gave me) has a thinner green ribbon. I know this hat is from the forties. Based on what i can guess.....I think it's dated from 46' to 48'. What do you guys think? Also, I think Viceroy stands for the model. I could be wrong.

Brim: About 2 3/8''
Ribbon: About 3/4''
Color: Grey

Loewe hats

Snagged this last week on etsy. I can find precious little info on this maker & what I seemed to have found is a closing date of 1926, making this the oldest in my collection!:)
The felt can't be over 1/8" thick, the hand is incredible and condition is MINT!

Can anyone tell me more about Loewe's Hats?

Astounding find, Rick. Congrats! What color would you say it is? It's GREAT, whatever it is! The sweatband looks to be reeded. Does that tell anything about the age?

Thanks, hats.
I was thrilled. The condition is as new.
As to color, I attempted to correct it in photoshop but still have fallen short of its actual color, which is a warm, warm brown.
Root beer, I guess might come close. :p

As to the reed being indicative of age...I dunno'. [huh] Does it usually indicate a certain time frame?
(I can't find my notes from that lecture)
