Nice looking hat. I like it with that brim curl. Similar to that Homburg-esqe straw I got a couple months back. But I like the more south-western look to this one

I like it too, Joe. Sort of a plantation style. I have a SunBody palm on order that’s similar but more in my price range.

A couple of interesting hats from last night's auctions. Each was paired with another not-so-interesting-hat, but for the same amount of shipping it's always good to have one (or more) to cover those costs when flipped.

First was this pair of Stetsons -- I'm really digging the heathered one with felt ribbon, brim stitching and telescope crease. The auction was "local" (about an hour away) so we'll go pick these up this afternoon.

This one looks like it's a Selv-Edge stingy Strat clone.

Then I stumbled across this pair that said "no shipping", but I asked anyway and they will ship. That could be the reason the price was only $10. The Resistol appears to be from the 1940s.

I think I may have found a good one here. I paid $50 for this “leather” hat.

I searched “the continental AP hansen eau claire wis” and found two newspaper ads, one was dated 1910 and the other 1917.

I think this could be an officer hat from WWI.

The finds keep coming in, Bob. The heathered Stetson looks to be a Railbird.

Yes, that could be right. The red tag is certainly pre-40s, the vvv stitching also. The unsewn back of the sweatband and size sticker is usually pre-30s. I’d be comfortable saying this is probably a 20s or earlier hat.

The exact date on No 1 Quality hats is often hard to pin down, the lot number printed on the back of the sweatband might help.

I posted the hat to the campaign hat thread as well and I received information that characteristics specific to this style of hat put it as an NCO hat likely from 1920 to 1942. Based on your info it could narrow the range down to the 20s.

I found the number A885074 on a sticker and on the back of the sweatband. Do those mean anything?

Those model/reorder numbers have never been decoded. The lot number thread has all the information you've ever wanted and more

Alan put it together with lots of help. He has a bit of a timeline there towards the end.

Stetson Sweat Stamps/ LOT XXXX

Lot numbers were stamped on the back of many Stetson sweatbands through about 1940. Are they strictly sweatband lot numbers? I don't know, but they do appear to run chronologically. Here are a few of mine, from smallest number to largest. Let's see yours! Stetson Star with Fray sweat/ Lot...

Bummer, I can’t really make out the lot number. I sorta see “LOT 4X57” but confidence is low. It looks like it got double stamped perhaps because the ink was low that day .

Stitched sweat seam is a late 30's early 40's thing when it began to be used in earnest.......
