I ran across this Stetson 3X Open Road in a thrift store. It was in their "boutique" section for $40, but I can probably flip it.

Yeah! This one's asking price was ridiculously expensive, but I talked him down to a little more than half. Still expensive, but not ridiculously so.

I’m glad you talked him down. I’d seen the hat for sale but the price was over the top…then again, how many will you ever see for sale?

Exactly my thinking! And I talked him down from 2000 to 1150. I figured with a 510 hat collection, I should at least have one of those.

The Pendleton Roundup is a huge rodeo held annually in Pendleton, Oregon... I wonder if a local shop special ordered some of those hats or if a participant or ribbon winner bought or won that hat. It's quite old... the style, the sweatband, all point to early 1900s - 1920s???

Congratulations on a fantastic hat. They sure as heck don't make them, and can't make them, like that anymore.

I would write the name as Stetson Nutria Pendleton Round Up for the maker, felt material, and model.

The website says the Pendleton Round Up started in 1910... so anytime in or after 1910 for that wonderfully historic hat.

 

[Bamaboots]

Wallace Smith drew the original “let’er buck” artwork in 1924 and sold it to the Round-Up for $250. They registered it as their trademark in 1925 and have maintained it ever since.
