Just pulled the trigger on my fourth Optimo. It is a present to myself for winning my election. Oxblood LaSalle w black ribbon. Should be here around Christmas...can't wait!

I tried a black ribbon on an oxblood & I didn't like the way it made the felt look darker. I look forward to seeing pics.

Full on sunlight, so the felt appears a bit darker here than real life.

I'm planning on visiting Optimo at some point, and I'd like to visit their southside location, but I probably won't have a car with me in Chicago. Does anyone know if there are any buses that run close to the Western Ave. location?

I know the L runs within a couple of blocks of their shop. We took a taxi from dowmtown.

When I visited the south side store, I had my own car. The trip was a good half-hour from downtown, so I imagine based on fares I paid for shorter distances, it would be obscenely high. I'd say 50 easy.

I see you are from Chesterton. I live in DeMotte. Do you buy your Optimo Hats online or do you go to their store? I would like to visit their store one day. I was wondering which one would be easiest to get to. I really hate driving into Chicago. I am 12 miles from the Lowell exit on 65. I am in Valpo and Chesterton often. If I see a guy walking around who looks like you wearing a fedora I will say hello and offer to buy you a meal. Thanks

Take Metra

Take Metra from LaSalle St. Station in Loop to Beverly Hills(103rd).
L is quite distant,slower, less comfortable and less pleasant neighborhood at 95th.

Hi there! Honestly the easier of the two stores to get to by car is the south side location. If you visit the downtown store I would take the South Shore train to the end of the Line & walk to their store.

If I remember correctly, it was $35 to $40. It was a couple of years ago, and my memory isn't what it used to be.

Thanks for all the advice, everyone! I think I'll end up going to Optimo's downtown location. It may not be quite as big, but I get the sense it'll be less of a hastle all around. -M

For those planning to visit the Chicago Downtown location, I would strongly suggest calling ahead and coordinating the visit with Graham or Tiffani, both of whom spend part of the week there. If they know your head size and what you may be interested in looking at, they will be able to bring an appropriate selection of hats over to the Monadnock to make your visit more productive and rewarding.
