crowns

Is it my imagination, or are most Optimo hats made with a lower crown than a lot of the better hats on the market?

Neil, the above was a special low crown request. My feeling is Optimo will make crown heights to any dimension, but tends to the more `standard` conventional heights is my opinion. The higher crowns are more retro - I would say, and Optimo is not aiming for that image out of default. Just my thoughts...

Yep. Graham tends to like a more streamlined aesthetic, but will make you whatever you want. I used to only like huge crowns, but have since taken to both styles.

Crowns

I was all taken by the high-crown, no-taper look, too, until I ordered and donned an Akubra Fed Deluxe.
REALLY high crown, no taper. Looks like a stovepipe sitting atop your head, and I have to tell you, I prefer the more classic look.
I think the crown on a Stetson Pinnacle, or the Optimo I bought in November just look, well, cooler.
And cool cannot be overrated.

Yes, I do.

But I am damned if I can upload to this site. I keep getting an "upload failed" message.
Will try again this weekend.

It`s tricky at first, but follow the instructions. If you use Photobucket, only copy the link until the .jpg, and not the rest. That seems to be a big problem with photobucket. Looking forward to it! (It not, trial and error and some frustration usually gets it to work.)

Neil, if you still have problems uploading you can copy the links and one of us should be able to pull your pics over for you. It is a bit tricky until you get the hang of it.

Optimo Sea Mist

Here's a beauty that puts a smile on my face everytime I put it on.

My first OPTIMO. Thanks to Alucard, I'm waiting for one in Creme next week.

Nice, Stylin. What color is that felt?

It's called Sea Mist...and as with many colors of gray, it's always tough to really accurately photograph it. (I'm reading up on BrandX photo tips- but I'm not in his league.)

It's gray with just a tinge of blue. Very versatile color. Looks great with blue, gray or black.

I'm a little confused by the crown shape...I think Graham called it a mini v.
Kind of in between a diamond and c crown.

Light as a feather. It was my first high end fedora and I'm still amazed that it's almost imperceptible when it's on my head.

Very nice. I've been looking for a light gray that would match up well with navy or black. That looks like it would fit the bill perfectly. I'd like to see a picture of the crease. Will you post another or two? Also crown height and brim width would be helpful if you please. Thank you.

You can check with OPTIMO...I think this was one of last year's colors. I was jonesing for a nice hat and they had this on the wall. They may have some hat bodies left in that color.

The brim is 2.5 inches. I don't like unbashing, but I'd say the crown is 5 inches.

I just got a grayed navy pinstripe suit and this things sings with it. The black ribbon makes it soar with black suits/jackets as well. Incredible color. I find those little felt chips hard to envision as full size hat, but this color is a near dead on match with the VS Blue Smoke. Maybe a tad lighter. Hard to say.

Here's a couple more shots.

That's not how I read it. I agree with the comment. Optimo sells a lot of lower crown hats, while many of us on the Lounge like a higher crown. That's not an allegation of lower quality, it just seems to be more of what Optimo makes. Of course, Graham will make whatever you want, but only if you ask.

It's an iffy read for me, especially when you add the fact that a PM I sent to the guy ended up in another hat maker's mailbox.

ABSOLUTELY NOT

I would suggest quite the opposite: Optimo hats are the best I have ever seen. I own one, and the styling is just about perfect. I think they are perhaps overpriced, but the fact that Graham gets $550 per hat pretty much tells the story. People pay that because of what they get. I intend to buy a seafoam fedora this fall. One Optimo a year is pretty much my limit.
