lol Thanks for all the suggestions. Ok I will totally show you how the pincurls look next time I do a set. I'm on day four right now, so its less that the vavoom look I had on day one and I am going to try victory rolls again tomorrow, so it may not be too pretty.

I'm going to go have my eye brows shaped professionally next time to get the nice arch I want. Then I am going to pick up some false lashes, find a new lipstick and I'll be beck to post my results! Thanks again for all the help, what amazing group you are!:D

PS I promise my DH is a swell guy. ;0) He almost go arrested one nigh picking me wildflowers after he got off a late night shift because the cop thought he was trying to steal a car from the dealership next to the vacant lot he was picking flowers at. lol

Having never seen you before looking at the very first picture, I think the red lipstick looks fine, leading me to think that this is a case of 'im-not-used-to-it-itis.' ;)

You look good in your normal make-up, too.

I think you look gorgeous in both pictures...I get that kind of comments from my husband too...he actually doesn't like when I wear red lipstick and gives me a hard time, but I dont get offended...he just likes me with less make up is all...maybe that's how your husband is too?

When I first tried a vintage look with makeup and victory rolls and pseudo-vintage outfit, my then-husband walked in the door from work with me posing just so and laughed as well, asking, "What's with the Flock o' Seagulls hair?" I was so upset, I promptly went and scrubbed my face while sobbing, brushed my hair into a ponytail and put on jeans and an ugly t-shirt. So take heart, you're not the only one hun.

Whenever your husband/boyfriend laughs at anything you do, don't take it to heart. That's just how men are, they laugh at each other and at the end of the day it just makes them better friends. They don't always seem to understand that females can be much more sensitive.

I'm sure he's not a horrible man, but what a divvy thing to say, eh? It might be worth letting him know that although you appreciate his input he's going to have to be a bit more tactful? I have a gorgeous bra set with Russian dolls and frills on it, very cute, and a man once told me I looked "like a saloon hooker" (I didn't!). He thought he was being nice though, bless him.

I can't see the pictures so I can't tell you what you look like with vintage make-up, but you look great in the 'natural' one - DEFINITELY not 'chunky', so don't you worry yourself!

I can't see your photos Goddess, but I'm sure it's as the others say..it's just a matter of getting a new look right/with the right colours. And also, at the height of her career Marilyn wore a ton of make up. Perhaps look at her earlier photos, and be inspired by those. I think it's when she was at her loveliest, more natural. And, as you're a natural beauty too, you can pull it off!

I hear you...apparently the day suit I wore yesterday was 'tacky' and old ladyish. He he, oh well. I won't change me - like it or lump it! And..I am a little tacky, I admit.

Reading over this thread, I get the impression that part of the problem is that the fellas in question just don't have a very broad exposure to the classic vintage aesthetic -- they might be familiar with modern pop-culture/showbiz caricatures of it, but I suspect they don't actually have much real-world experience with what women of the Era actually looked like, so when they see a vintage look standing in front of them the natural reaction might very well be "Huh? Go wash your face and put on a t-shirt like everyone else."

Maybe one way to attack this might be, then, to prepare them -- to try and expose them to exactly those sorts of images before going all out with the look -- perhaps watch a vintage movie together and point out someone in it that's especially well dressed. "I bet I could do my hair like that," or "I've got a dress just like that" and then perhaps experiment a bit to see if you can get an encouraging/positive reaction out of him. The more familiar they get with the look, I'd think, the less unusual and threatening they'd find it.

I agree with you, LizzieMaine. My ex in particular was of the mindset that he HAD to have the newest, biggest, shiniest, etc. and is the classic narcissistic 17 year old trapped in a 30-something body mama's boy that seems to be so prevalent these days. On the contrary, my mister now has a great fondness for classic and vintage style, thinks the 60s were the downfall of society and feels that he was born 60 years late. He not only appreciates my style, but enjoys it and loves to go places and show me off. He's not big on thongs and doesn't see high-waisted underthings and girdles with garters as old or fuddy-duddy, but as the sexy garments they are. In short, I hit the jackpot this time!

Now, please don't think that my ex's rejection of my tastes was the nail in the coffin for the marriage, there were plenty of other problems. It just certainly didn't help matters, that's all. But if there's anything I've learned in all my years of living, it's that you have to make yourself happy first and foremost, and everyone else can take their opinions and go soak their heads.

No worries guys, I think he's all into it now. He bought me a lovely shade of red lipstick called Wicked from Sephora for mothers day and has indulged me in my new found love for shopping ebay for vintage patterns. ;0) I'll fix the pic when I can. ;0)

That's really good to hear! See, there was nothing wrong with how you looked, he just needed time to get his head around it.

I'm really lucky, my husband is definitely appreciative and enjoys the classic aesthetic. Likes and compliments my 40s/50s dresses...it's just sometimes when I delve into the 60s with bright weird patterns...*lol* I've got to post a pic of the 'tacky' suit I have. It is tacky, but I love it. Bought it at Camden, super cheap. ;)

I think I have the opposite problem. My boyfriend never says anything, just always it looks nice. I think that even with some of the more experimental looks that may not be so good, so he will say they are nice so he doesn't hurt my feelings. Don't get me wrong, I love that he cares so much, I just wish he would be a little more truthful in what he thinks.

bellabella my boyfriend is exactly the same way. Partly with him though is that style really isn't important at all, he just likes to see me so excited about something.
