NOS 'Vintage' Blue MA1 Flight Jacket by HockAy XL

Purchased a NOS HockAy MA1 'Vintage' Flight Jacket by accident, had placed an order for another brand on-line & received the HockAy instead. I've had one of these before (last year), for me, IMHO the worst 'Vintage' reproduction (I use the word loosely) MA1 that I've encountered. The shell has a thin papery (cheapo) feel to it, can't imagine it taking much punishment. Shoulders, back length and sleeve measurements are about the same as a 'Vintage' series Alpha MA1. The chest is cut / sewn so that the slightest movement when zipped (on my frame) leads to the material instantly pulling taut and creasing. Zippers (Ideal) & knits are OK when compared to everything else about this jacket. One to give a miss IMO, this ones going back from whence it came.

Make sure they pay for your return postage - as memory serves, the domestic enactment of the Distance Selling Directive obliges them to cough up your postage costs both ways, as they sent you the wrong thing.

I know this is an old thread, but this is pretty much the only mention of “Hockay” I could find online.
I have the same jacket and I couldn’t love it more.
The shell is easily of the same quality as the various CWU and MA-1’s I’ve had in the past and I’ve got no issues with the fit either.
I’d just suggest buying the size you are rather than the size you think you are and remembering they’re a bit shorter than the orange lined versions.
As I’ve said earlier, there doesn’t seem to be many of them available online and I can’t find any background info about the company (if anyone knows anything about them I’d be very interested) but if anyone does come across them they’re a steal and I’d happily recommend them for everyday wear.

Each to their own I'm Glad you are happy with yours, I dislike them personally. I compared Hockay to similar 'Vintage' style MA-1 jackets I own from Greenbrier & Alpha & prefer those on a number of levels (I've had two Hockay pass through my hands the second one by accident).

TBH the best 'Vintage copies' I have found for the price are the Alpha (USA made) 'Replica' series that use great textiles inc wool in the interlining & nice thick nylon shells (similar to original issue) but they don't often appear for sale. They are somewhere there below Buzz jackets but superior to many IMHO.

Hockay don't appear that often, I've seen them come up occasionally & one recently on eBay. I haven't ever seen anything other than an MA-1 vintage model either. I don't know if any other models were made.
I had contact with someone recently that suggested there was a link between Hockay & Concord Introd Inc who did produce a 70's style MA-1 jacket. I've recently purchased one of these but need to move it on.

Fit wise regarding the 'Hockay' it was the cut rather than the measurements that didn't work out for me.

On a recent trip to the ME I purchased this MA-1 dated 1984 MIL-J-72299A DTD, made by Concord Introd Inc . Supplied to the IAF, size is XL but fits my 42"chest perfectly. The outer shell nylon is thick, is not exactly a cold weather jacket but is good for about +5C. I also have a similar model jacket produced locally which is thicker, outer shell is heavy duty cotton and has a hidden hood just bellow the back of the collar. Described as an officer short jacket, as modelled by the 2 soldiers.

Haven’t seen one of these jackets before by Concord, looks like it’s based on the USAF CWU 45-P with earlier ‘action back’ feature. The CWU 45 came in Nomex rather than nylon for Nomex’s fire retardant qualities. I’ve got an early CWU 45 and a couple of nylon Alpha replicas..I prefer nylon as a textile which is fine as I don’t fly a plane

Under the military assistance deal with the US, Israel has to buy military equiepment from the US. I have an M65 jacket from 1973. Could be that the jacket is from a batch destined to the IAF?
