Any antivirus has to scan the entire HD at least once to find anything. My Norton regularly warns me about junk attempting to invade. I went over to the Mac-side several months ago after continual problems with the four PC-based computers in my household. I'd witnessed my son's school-issued Apple laptop perform flawlessly while I played home IT tech weekend after weekend trying to keep the home PC's and network running. Finally gave up the battle with viruses and malware and the software designed to protect us - that often seemed worse than the problem! In December I bought an iMac and in February a MacBook Pro. Just last weekend, my college-age daughter bought a MacBook. Today, no viruses, no virus protection, no problems.
