Don't be worried. They just don't have electricity. I'm sure you will hear a couple of interesting stories when they get service back.

VB

Many things are nicer by candlelight. Dinners. Love. Mirrors.

I figured as much. If anything was really wrong I would have heard from them by now....guess they just don't want to talk to me lol My dad isn't online which means either a) they don't have power b) he's at a book signing or c) he's at a poker game.... I dunno....their interesting stories tend to make me cringe and Doran, I don't even want to think about them and candlelight..I'd like to actually sleep tonight lol...thank you for the update ;)

I woke up to no electricityand didn't get it back until after dark. Our cordless phone didn't work but our corded did. So no ringing when people tried to call but we could call out.
We got a fire going in out chimney insert for heat and cooking.
My boys were annoyed by no computer or television but still amused themselves without my help. I got cabin fever and took them out in the evening for fast food and book store trip.

Sincerely,
The Wolf

::: Waves :::

Me please. I had a tree fall on our house this morning. And our streams are overflowing.

VB

Wow.

I have to say, looking at it from an outsider's perspective, that was probably a bad thing to have happen.

Do you call a specialist to make a tree fall on your house?

:D

Wow, I'm actually glad I'm not in California anymore! This reminds me of the first year we moved to California. We had a creek in our backyard that flooded, our pool flooded, our garage flooded, and we were without power for who knows how long! In high school a few times we were without power for up to two weeks.

It's going to rain here in the Netherlands today, but I think we've got it easy. Good luck with the weather guys!

Big thing to remember with power outtages, wireless phones aren't going to work. When we had the windstorm and power outtage here a little over a year ago, suddenly that "silly" candlestick phone I had wasn't so silly since it was the only phone in the house that worked for the six days we were without power until I plugged a second older phone in. It's not vintage, but doesn't need power outside of that which comes through the phone jack. So if you're calling friends and relatives and getting no answer - that could be it. The call's going through but there's not a phone plugged in at their end that works with the power out.

Our power stayed on through the storm but we had our own private lake in the back yard for a time.

Looks like we have some clearer skies this morning, let things dry out before the next wave hits.

Well, the storm's over on our end anyway. We got 6" of snow with about a 1/2" of ice underneath. The levee broke up the road and upwards of 4000 people are trapped by the flood waters right now.

I hope they'll be OK!

Its been raining here since last night and its supposed to keep raining for 3 more days. I don't mind rainy weather as long as it doesn't do any damage or anything like that. I actually kinda like it. Maybe I'm odd one out when it comes to liking rainy weather, haha.

We've got big Chinook helicopters flying at a low altitude overhead. I'm assuming they're assessing the situation in Fernley or hopefully carrying people out of there. Meanwhile it started snowing again. Got another 1" in the past hour.

I love the rain. One of the reasons I miss Oregon so much, I guess. But here in the desert, a little rain floods everything ... fast. None of the roads have drainage, houses have no gutters, and storms usually come with either severe drops in temperature or wildfire-starting lightning.

Yep. Give me an inch of daily rain on the docks of Astoria anyday. ;)

i only remember one storm that prevented me from going to school for one day when i lived in Sacramento...years back up here in La Grande the temp dropped to -22 with winds bringing it to -70, iceburgs floating down the Grande Rhonde River in the middle of town tearing up trees, the town was out of power for over a week and the power company had satellite trucks going around to each house to give people a few minutes of power...terrible...

weather In Reno

Rain Friday then snow Friday night a little dicey driving home 4 wheel drive and just go slow.
Woke up to clear skys today got the snow blower out removed the 4 inches of snow
Spent the rest of the day in the shop working on my sidecar rig.
Snow started again around 1 pm a few more inches of snow now clear stars out
Will run the snow blower in the morning.
24 hour total for snow in Reno a little under a foot.
After living in Sierra: Truckee ( 5800 feet elevation ), Squaw Valley ( 6200 feet elevation) and Donner Summite ( 7250 feet elevation) for 15 years a foot of snow is a holiday.
Now flooding that is another story am lucky to have escaped that. Part of the town of Fernley to the east out in the desert is not so lucky, a old irrigation system failed and those folks homes are under water tonight. Hope all the loungers in California soon will get a chance to dry out.

It's headed east and it's nasty, those of you who live on the plains and the North East need to get prepared.

Oh, crap! There goes my NY resolution of trying to ride to work EVERY day in '08! (tho I already caved last week due to frosty temps. )

Hope everyone is doing okay out NW. Just Fyi, it was mentioned in another thread but Art Fawcett (Vintage Silhouettes in OR) had a power outage, just in case someone was waiting for communication or a hat.

I feel fortunate perhaps even lucky, on Friday power was restored after 4 or 5 hours, on Saturday I was notified that a down power pole at work requires that I stay home until further notice, I’d rather be at the office than sitting inside, but I guess I can catch up on films on TCM, I believe the worse is over, and hope those still without power hang in there, and take care.

BTW: Yeah great hat weather.
