Crittall Windows.......brrrrrr!

I grew up in a post war tenement block with those windows - and no central heating. In the winter it was so bl**dy freezing they used to ice up on the inside! And they were incredibly noisy and draughty too. I still love the look of them though, they are very slimline and elegant. Just impractical in some buildings!

Great sufferin' catfish. What a beautiful house. If I ever strike it rich, I might get my paws on the original plans and build it somewhere else.

I see what you mean about the kitchen.

What really puts these types of houses in context for me is when you see a modern vehicle of the time parked nearby.

Our perspective is tainted from seeing similar dwellings built since. I wonder what it would have been like to have seen a place like this for the first time.

I find the imagination of the creators quite staggering sometimes.

Sincerest thanks for sharing.

Scandinavian architects were at the forefront of the field back then and there are a lot of great examples of this here in Oslo. It is a bit confusing though that the style is called modernism in English while here that is the name of the style dominant in the late sixties to the late eighties. We call the pre war style funkis or funksjonalisme
