No Love For Black Hats

Majority of mine are Black, tho I'm on the lookout for a purple pork pie

I have two fur hats; they are both black.
I am considering a chocolate colored hat. I like the chocolate color that both Stetson and Resistol offer for their western hats.
I have one other hat that is a shantung by Stetson with a brown leather hat band.

I will say, however, that black is still my favorite color for a hat. Just my opinion.

In all a person could say about a black hat, when they are clean (well brushed and sponged off) a black hat can have one super nice look to it. I think it is not so easy to see all the details of the black hat until a person gets real close. But the black hats that have the really dark deep rich black and are clean, can be some of the best looking hats ever.

eBay seller wintrapper42jr has some purple pork pies currently listed, having been produced by the former Beaver Brand outfit. They're wool rather than fur but for $35 they include a matching hat band, feather, pin & liner. I bought one in size 7-5/8 last month, he's still got some left in other sizes. He's also had some in bordeaux (subject to being re-listed).

Got one those Purple Beaver Hat company pork pies. Did best offer and got it, but larger than I needed but smallest they had. Got a nice brown Goorin Bros straw hat too for peanuts.

Well, you saw the one on page 5 of this thread. I was back in Covington and picked up a black Quigley hat with a Black horse hair ribbon.

Wow. What a difference a few years make. I literally hated black hats when I first started this thread. I'm sort of okay with black hats now. There's definitely others that I dislike more. Pecan is one. I hate Pecan. I have a Pecan hat in Beaver that I refuse to wear because I hate it so much. Then again, I may change my mind in a few years like I did with black hats.

Hey, I have a John Wayne Shootist style in Pecan and it's a good look. On the other hand, Pecan isn't always Pecan. Some of the browns aren't a consistent color. I have a Buckaroo Hatter Pecan and an Art Fawcett Indiana Jones hat that aren't close to the same color.

Pecan seems to be a popular color with a lot of Loungers and I wouldn't steer anyone away from it if that's what they like. It's just not the color for me. It's all a matter of personal preference. The one I have looks more like an olive green. Then again, with the inconsistencies in the color it would be hard to nail down what it actually is....could be a Winchester thing. My Pecan is the only custom I have and it's Winchester felt, and I'm not impressed with it at all. The dyeing quality on mine is pretty poor. I'm not a fan of Winchester's stuff.
