Yes, working with John is great and he is so nuts about getting it right that I am sure you will enjoy the jacket. The fit is always a white-knuckler with the 40's fit jackets. I am been meaning to take a few photos with the jacket on me to post. Hopefully, I can do it in the next day or two.

Drooooooolllllll...!!!

Oh JC...you are a 'dream maker' my friend!! This is just amazing!! And I'm assuming it can be done with the option of the snap fasteners at the bottom being buttons (?).
I'm also assuming that like the A2's that there is some personal option on the leather type too (?). But that Cape Skin (which was the original spec hide) looks so, so superior to any other hides I've seen used to make the A-1.

(JOHN; Get your message count up in here so that we can PM YOU).

Good Wear A-1 Jackets

Hello guys,

Thanks! One of my customers really wanted an A-1, so I made this after I was able to get some parts, with him being able to get the horn buttons and bone button backings. The domestic capeskin is a trip...I've never seen any as good as this, and it was just from a little sample I was sent in a bunch of leather from a leather dealer. I'm glad I didn't throw it away last year.

I'll offer the A-1 with any configuration of pocket design and position, and the button or snaps by the waistband. I'd like to make one of these with pockets farther from the buttons and a bit smaller, with larger flaps. Also, I'd offer any type of seams, as this one has the cut seams on the sleeves with three lines of stitching, but regular seams will be available, too, as will a full one-piece back panel.

I've got the price at $830 now.

Paddy - thanks, as always. Do you know how I many posts I should have to get PMs?

Thanks!
John

John, I think you scored a real winner with the A-1. I ended up buying one of Gary's prototypes and an extremely happy with it, had I not I would want one of yours. I can tell you the cape is very nice and looks like an original no doubt. Mine is getting some heavy wear and I ended up Pecarding it that darkened it up a tad and helped the grain a bit. The grain is nowhere as nice as the cape you sourced, but pretty close. PM me when you get a chance or email me, I would like to talk to you. Thanks. Steve

I think if you would just make a couple more here you'd be set. And we'll look the other way happily if both of them are nonsense, one after the other and in this thread. :)

I think the standard post padding is "Nice hat!"

Oh, this reignites an old passion...I must have one.

Next month, when my bank account has had a little time to recover from the workout I've just given it.

Cheers!

Yup saw that one (and I really did not much like A-1s) and ordered one. I just freaked when I saw it. Man what a job. I am really liking my Doniger I got from John. It is just like my original.

Sorry, Fedoralover, I've been offline. Yes, that is my jacket. In fact, it's hanging off the back of my chair as I write this.

Hey, I was shooting hoops earlier today while wearing that jacket! Those high-fitting armholes, you know...

I did hear from a reliable source and I just checked Mark's eBay site and sure enough, no A-2's for order (there is one that's up for bid but its not a pre- order). I guess you can still order them directly from Scotland. I don't know why the situation is as it is. I would imagine if the demand is there that he would be selling. I always had great customer service with Mark.

Demand? More like first time customers, ordering A-2's have to deal with Aero of Scotland--too many complaints on accuracy issues--returns, have driven Mark of Aero USA to the point of not wanting to deal with those particular individuals!

Mark's customer service is still awesome, however.

I've been wanting another A-2 in a dark seal brown and was thinking of getting another Aero, but when I saw I could get a Goodwear A-2 for only another $125. it seemed a no brainer.

I decided on the Dubow

Beautiful choice! I have one ready to be sent to me...I know you will be very happy with the finished product!
You are talking about a guy (John), who is literally a scholar of War-time jackets, perfectionist, if you will. I'm sure you know. He has all the credentials for it as well, having served in Desert Storm, a retired USN seaman...What more could one ask for...indeed.
