Mike, I agree that hats look a certain way depending on the shape of a head or tilt of a cap, but I do not think you are wearing it incorrectly. Wearing a cap as an individual and with style (as you do) excludes such notions as wearing something "a certain way". lol

I wasn't suggesting there was a "certain way" to wear his hat, but there is a "conventional way". Go to their website and take a look. Hey, anybody can wear a hat anyway they want. Backwards, sideways or inside out. Just trying to help the man out.

Do you like the herinbonsunatsupikiyatsupu or are you a doraibonzu type of guy?lol [huh]
It's good thing the owner of the site is American. Even then, I had to send 4-5 emails to make sure the order I placed was correct.

Cap just came from Hat People

My cap just came from Hat People. Although it is a great color it isn't what I expected. I ordered the full cut but this looks more like a medium or deep cut to me. What do you guys think? The full cut should have more flop than this...just looking at their website. I'm probably sending this one back tomorrow. Unfortunately I no longer see this color of herringbone on their website.

It is starting to grow on me a little bit. I really like how it looks from the side. If only it had a slight bit more "poof" when viewed from the front. [huh]

A friend of mine has a full cut Hat People cap, and it does not look like that at all. I think a phone call is in order. Perhaps there is a mix-up somewhere that's not obvious until a cap is worn.

As for the color, it may still be available. Not all of their fabric choices are on their website.

My wife bought me this leather newsboy from Stetson for Christmas, I only have a generic pic for now, I will post a better pic at Christmas. I have tried it on and it's not as full cut as I normally like but it seems well made and and fits well.

I have a full cut and it looks fuller on the sides, but I can't wear it as low as you are wearing it or the bill is exposed in front like yours. They sold out of the brown herringbone, but just listed a brown hounds tooth that looks nice. I just ordered one of those in an extra full cut.

I know it's usually guys wearing caps, but I've always loved cap (and fedoras). I have a couple of old Kangol (made in England) caps that my father gave me years and years ago. I wear them occasionally when it's cold enough or when I go to cold weather to visit.

Photos don't do them justice.

Since they do not put a snap on the bill of the cap, I can see how this would happen. If I just grab the bill by itself and pull on the cap, it will look similar to what tracyam has illustrated. You must hold onto the material on top of the hat, with the bill and then set it upon your noggin. I like to grab mine with both hands from the sides of the bill, (holding the material as well), and set it on. This would be if you prefer to wear your cap in the "conventional" way. Just try it and see if it works. If not, then maybe you did get a short cut.

That is how I've put the hat on every time today since I got it. It's the only way to get the front to slant down the wee bit that I got it to. The profile shot you see is with all the slack pulled forward.

I emailed them about exchanging the hat and suggested that maybe I got the wrong cut. She replied that I did get the right cut it's just they are handmade and all different. I can appreciate that but this is way too similar to the medium cut or deep cut shown on their website. She suggested I buy the extra full cut hat as well for comparative purposes but I'm just not made out of money these days, especially around the holidays. So I'm sending it back and hope that it doesn't take another 3 weeks to get it again. :(

Sorry to hear that. I have two of the full cuts, and they are exactly the same. I also have the extra full, and it's quite a bit fuller.

I hope you end up with what you want.

I'm a fan of the Newsboy/Flat Cap because it carries with it a kind of simple elegance comparable to the more "complex" elegance of fancier hats such as the fedora, while at the same time being easier to cart around and not as cumbersome to manage during day-to-day activities which might require its continual removal. It's a lot easier for me to wear a Newsboy/flat cap to college, since any hat I wear will spend a lot of time off of my head. With a newsboy I can either put it under my bookbag or inside of it, something that can't be said of a fedora, which would have to sit on my desk or on an empty chair (I don't like to put a hat on the floor).

That being said, here are some of my lids.

This first is actually one of the nicest hats I own, regardless of style. I found it at Target about three years ago and it's held up incredibly well. It had an elastic band sewn into the brim, and was supposed to be an XL, but still hugged my head painfully, even bald. Trimming out the elastic band loosened it up enough to make it fully comfortable and wearable. It's not a special occasion hat of sorts. I just wish I could find another one in black or gray that fit so well and was of comparable quality.

This is more of a knockaround cap, although I'll also wear it with a shirt and tie or even a suit if it's a "hat-on-hat-off' occasion. Primarily I wear it for exercise in cold weather, or when I need something to keep my head warm with a track suit. (Try wearing anything nicer than a flat cap or newsboy with a track suit and you will see something truly absurd). It's wool felt but has held up surprisingly well over the course of about five years; another benefit of the flat cap being its already blob-like shape, which lends it to being able to take a great amount of abuse and weather exposure and still look pretty much the same as when you bought it.
