Newbie looking for the hat in this picture

Greetings.

I am a long time baseball cap wearer looking to purchase my first Fedora. Just today I stumbled upon this picture (of Spider-Man director Sam Raimi) and found him wearing the exact hat I've been searching for. Any ideas what make/style this is? Where to get it? Cost?

Any pertinent information and suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Ben

well, if you wanted to pay for a custom it would be very easy for Steve Delk or Art Fawcett to make you a top quality hat that looks exactly liek that one and would be probably of better materials. i don't know the original however but I do like it as well.

Hey SoundGuy, welcome to the Lounge! Good to hear you're coming over to our side from the baseball cap underworld. Congratulations. You've picked a really nice hat, very sharp. I honestly don't know who makes one like that, i'm fairly new to the scene myself, but, I guarantee someone here knows, and you'll be well on your way to looking dandy in no time.

Cheers

I would go with Art or Steve, but I'm almost positive it's a Borsalino Como roughly 2 1/2 inch brim which is pretty easy to find on any online hatter. If you like Italian fedoras and want something as good as a Borsalino but not custom and half the price go with Guerra1855, great Italian hat. By the way congradulations leaving those bb caps behind and "On Moving On Up" as brotha Curtis would say. By the way my fedora from Art is coming soon, you might want to give him a call his website is http://www.vintagesilhouettes.com/
his high end beaver is about the same price as Borsalino's regular rabbit. If you still decide to go with the Borsalino I still love the brand too.

Yeah, I really like the color, hard to see exactly what it is. At first glance, I thought it had a leather band, but, I was wrong. I didn't know Sam Raimi to be a hat wearer. Props to him.

I am not even sure what color it is - gray? Dark gray? Steel gray? Dark green?

Thanks everyone.

Good Day SoundGuy
Welcome to the Lounge. That is a sharp lid. I have one similar to it but it is a Robert Hall. Canadian made, fir, cheep and nice quality. But they do not deal with people, they do large orders to company's. I know "mars and Venus" in Edmonton carry's them but being they don't work on line I can only assume that does you no good in new York. But have a look at the Akubra "fedora" in carbon grey http://www.hatsdirect.com/cgi/products.cgi?view=57&returncat=Fedora+Hats&returnpage=0 (if you click on the colour the picture changes)looks close to me. A bit cheaper then most alternatives and a good way to get started. Hope that helps.

Biltmore?

That hat doesn't look like anything too unusual to me.
It says more about the Lounge than it does about the
hat that there are so many pricey, exotic suggestions.
Not to say I don't prefer exotic, pricey hats myself,
but I don't think that's what Raimi is wearing.

You might have a look at some of the better quality
Biltmore hats available today. There are mail order sources
represented here at the Lounge. Since you are in New York,
you should go to JJ in Manhattan or Bencraft in Brooklyn
and try a few hats to see what looks right on you. Assuming
you are not Sam Raimi.

My thoughts exactly. That is a pretty standard looking modern fedora. I thought Biltmore as soon as I saw it.
