Newb: Looking for first Fedora. Lots of Info as to what I may need.

Hey Wildblue, my folks are in Kodiak. I don't remember any fine hatters when I was up that way---but you'd think some of the fine sporting goods stores would at least stock something.

I've found a couple stores here in Alaska that have a VERY limited selection of Fedoras. None of them that's in my size, though. (7 3/4 to 7 7/8) I think I'll do a major fine hatter visit while I'm in the lower 48 next.

I'm headed to the Aleutian Island chain this week, so that's definitely not in the right direction.

UPS has my Stetson Whippet.. and I don't get it til Wednesday evening... as my first purchase, I am very very impatient.

Well Here it is. First Fedora.

Here is my Stetson Whippet. photos not the greatest, had to take them myself. some in a mirror. weird camera setup.

The hat: I Love it. It really needs nice clothes to look right though. I feel odd wearing it with 'bum around the house' clothing, but i put on my suit and suddently the hat becomes part of a whole.. its fantastic.

The pix are dark so they dont show the color so well, but its Caribou. Suit is a very dark grey with light pinstripes.

Thanks R.L., I'm pretty happy with it. (I actually love it) As someone who's new to fedoras I am definitely feeling that it's far too 'dressy' for an average day. If I'm not in a suit and tie it feels just odd to me still, perhaps that will pass with time. It is a good excuse to get dressed up though. Took my wife to dinner this weekend and we both got all dressed up.
