Hello everyone,
I recently came across the Fedora Lounge and now I'm hooked. I have never warn a hat other than a baseball cap but have been contemplating buying a panama hat.
I know it's getting late in the season to wear on but I'm going to St. Martin next month and I thought it would be nice to bring along. There is something about the hat that intregues me.
I am looking for some advise on purchasing my first hat. Because I've never worn this style hat before I don't know how much I should spend to get a decent looking hat. I know if I go too cheep it might turn me off due to the quality but I don't want to spent too much and find out I don't look good in it either.
My question is, where can I purchase a nice hat for a reasonable price, if that's even possible? I'm thinking something in the $75 - $150 price range for my first hat.

Thank you for your assistance.

Welcome to The Fedora Lounge, panama jack!

I'm afraid that I don't know enough about panamas to answer the rest of your questions, but I'm sure someone around here will be able to help you out.

Check out Panama Bob. He can hook you right up, plant a panama on your melon and a smile on your face.

Hi there and welcome! I am a new member here too, and let me tell you that this is a very knowledgeable and helpful bunch.

If possible, for your first hat, I would recommend finding a shop where you can try several on for size and style - see what looks best, and be sure of the fit.

Your profile says you live in the North East right? May I ask where? They may be a decent hat shop within a reasonable distance from you.

Anyway, from a fellow newbie, welcome. I'm sure you will enjoy and learn.

Welcome to the Lounge, Panama Jack!

You'll find TONS of great, informative threads to help you in your search for the perfect Panama (or any other hat, they are addictive). I don't own a Panama, but my first one will be from Panama Bob, and that's just based on all the great feedback he gets in this forum.

Welcome

Welcome to the lounge! I completely agree with the Panama Bob recommendation. Connecticut is not that big a state. Why don't you visit a few shops in NYC? Enjoy your stay! Best, Sam
