Thanks to all. Here's another one I had made last year, I let the tailor pick the fabric and chose an amazing virgin wool, he claimed to be from Europe. Whether it was or not I love the feel of it and the drape of the material. It was the same price. He has made shirts for me as well, he does French cuffs well but he hasn't quite got spear point collars to my liking yet.

Very nice suits indeed. I'm told Vietnam is very much a place to go for tailoring these days, alongside THailand. (As an aside, I wonder whether it would be worth compiling a list of tailors with whom FL folks have had such good experiences?).

I have a fifties suit of which I am very fond that is now really past its best; at that sort of money, I could conceivably take a holiday somewhere that there was a known good tailor and have it copied half a dozen times... Most of my favourite tailoring designs are earlier, but even so there's something about a mid-1950s British suit with a simple, three-button jacket.... Slightly narrow lapels, slightly boxy jacket, but before the trouser legs got narrow.... that makes it really work for even situations at work where one doesn't want it to stand out as much as, say, a peak-lapelled, belt-backed 30s three-piece.

He has made me a 3 piece suit with fishtail trousers as well. I would like to get my hands on some 50s fleck type material, to get some sports coats and trousers made. I have looked here but haven't had any luck.

@ Edward- If your willing to try, you could check out the shipping costs and send the suit to me along with a material swatch. I Can't guarantee I can find the same material but I am willing to try. It takes him about a week to do a suit. I am in a city called Haiphong in Northern Vietnam. My Skype name is live:kablinger.peter if you want to have a chat. cheers.

Very nice material, seems a wool blend but one of the good quality ones.

Did you choose this button stance? It might be the angle of the camera but it looks really high; a couple of inches lower would be far more balanced and would flatter you a lot more.

Asian tailors can be a bit of a gamble: they often run tourist-oriented shops in which people who have never owned a real suit come to experience "the thrill" of having a garment made and are invariably led to choose all the same fashion-oriented styling: short jackets, skinny lapels, low-rise trousers etc... So when a customer asks for something more classic they might not have the necessary knowledge anymore to draft the right pattern.
But if one is able to communicate the details with high precision (and make sure they undersand them), the result is usually well worth.

@Mathematicus -Actually your quite accurate regarding communications. It can be difficult. I printed out photos of some Clark Gable and Jimmy Stewart suits I liked and just pointed and circled areas giving him a thumbs up or down regarding do it or not.
This is the 3rd tailor I have been to and finally settled on him, He is in his 70s. His grandson is in one of my classes. The first 2 tailors that were younger looked at my photos acted as if they understood then made a new style suit with a low waist and a jacket that fit like it was two sizes too small. Actually they seemed to do the opposite of everything that I had relayed to them. I see what you mean about the button position but overall I am happy with the results.

Thanks, that's a very generous offer. I'm in the middle of a hosuemove project currently, but perhaps in a few months' time...!

Agree Edward. That was a great era. A man on Sartorial blog posted a review of tailors in south Asia. I will try to dig up the link.

That's a gorgeous suit sir! Could you let me know the address or any information you could remember about the tailor? I would live to give it a try!
pmjk hasn't visited this board in over 2 years. I doubt he will see your question.

He was up north in Haiphong. I believe that's where the tailor was. Where are you located.

Welcome to TFL.
