Forget about investing in gold, precious stones or oil futures ... put your retirement funds entirely in 50-year-old sneakers.

Dang, I mean, DANG, $10,000 for tennies?

It's great if you can get it.

I suppose used ones are worth a lot less, right?

With other old items like this, they're oftem bought to be used as patterns for making repros. I would really wonder if that could be done with these, tho.

I have a pair of these repros...they're cheap, but look great. I bought them for $10 when the came out, but a few people bought most of the guys stock out & now sell them for about $50 or $60 a pair.
Now, a larger company stole this guys idea (the guy who found the originals) & started to reproduce them theirselves...I think you can find the repros online from the "big" company who stole them for $60-75 now, but I'm not sure.
I met the guy who was reproducing them & he was doing a good thing for vintage folks & sneaker-wearers alike & someone else w/ more money destroyed him...gotta love America...

Awww....Colchesters, I remember when they first came out the controversy surrounding the 1892 claim. Honestly, you just need to check out the art deco tread to place 'em past the 1920s.

Ya, I think the guy thought he found the originals from 1892...but just because you get a patent date or a copyright, doesn't mean that's when they were originally produced...these are definately 30s sneakers...I think anyone in the culture & that know's the history can figure that out. There's a place online where I was checking the Colchester history out & w/o saying it you can see that their sneakers weren't produced until the 20s or 30s...although they were producing heels & tires & such before the turn of the century. No one's perfect, especially when you get excited about a find!
