I discovered the Fedora Lounge about 6 weeks ago, and have been lurking frequently ever since. I have finally taken an important step and joined, and feel I should introduce myself.

I am Troy, just as my ID states. I would like to thank the creator for building this beautiful establishment, and everyone else in the Lounge for helping to make it what it is.

I've wanted to be a hat wearer for years, but until recently did not take the plunge. At last I made the commitment and picked up a cheap discount department store paper straw fedora. I took to the hat quickly, but started to feel that it was such a cheap crummy hat I was not doing myself any justice with it.

I am an ebay user, but not knowing my hat size I was afraid to buy a vintage hat without trying it on. Shopping at a local vintage clothing store, I was told of a real hat shop about a half hour from wear I lived. I checked out the website, then made my first trip the next day. I was incredibly impressed with the shop and bought my first real hat, a straw Pinzano jet snap brim. I fell in love with the hat immediately, and I became an every single day hat wearer! This is the hat shown in my avatar.

I have since picked up a vintage Stetson Gun Club hat on ebay for a very nice price. The front of the brim was a little disfigured, and while searching for info on how to reshape the hat, I found myself at The Fedora Lounge. Thanks to some information I found here, I steamed the brim back into shape. Due to it being a very warm hat, I have only worn it a couple of times so far, but when fall comes, look out!

Two weeks ago I made a return trip to the hat shop and picked up a beautiful panama - also a Pinzano - the Broadway. If I have the code right, here's a picture of me enjoying my new hat at a Squirrel Nut Zippers show the day I bought it!

So, That's how I got to this outstanding establishment, and how I achieved my goal of being a hat wearer. I live in Western Mass, if anyone needs to know a great hat shop around here, let me know, I'll point you in the right direction. I am originally from New Hampshire, and have spent some years living in Tennessee, and Mississippi, so if anyone wants to hear about that, let me know!

Again, thank you all for the opportunity to be a member of such a grand place.

As another newbie, let me welcome you to the lounge. There's some really good guys here, real knowledgeable about hats!

Congrats on scoring two nice hats. Some guys (me included) aren't so lucky right out of the gate like that. They look good.

Welcome,
Rick

Welcome

Howdy fellow newbie! Looks like you are off to a fine start. Everyone I have encountered here so far has been kind to the ignorant (me), generous with information, and flawlessly courteous. Enjoy yourself! Best, Sam

troy, Welcome to the Lounge. We know you're going to like it here! One word about those "paper straw" hats. I've got one I picked up at Goodwill for $1.29. I reblocked it, and replaced the ribbon, but it's still what it is. So, I decided a few months ago, to wear it one more time and then throw it away. It felt so good, and looked so good, I just couldn't bring myself to discard it. (Actually, I've tried about three times!) That cheap hat has seen some pretty heavy service, this summer. It comes down to what we repeatedly say, "If you like it, and it makes you feel good, wear it!" :)

Welcome to the LOUNGE

Troy, Welcome Aboard.

Your Panama hat screams class and looks like a million bucks on you.

Of course everyone wants to know you, and hear about world travels and adventures.

Search the VAST archives, use the search tools, and you can glean a lot of info about hats, vendors, maintenance, style, how-to info, and on and on.

Glad to have you.

Hi Troy,

I am a recent newbie myself, but I can already say you will enjoy the Lounge!

I like how the hat looks on you. I understand that is a straw (Panama) pork pie?

Regards,

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Yes I'd say Pork Pie, though I am definitely still in the beginning stages of my hat education, so if someone here tells me otherwise, I will learn something new.

Here are a couple better pics I took to show the features of the hat better.

Yes I love SNZ. Sadly I have not yet seen North Mississippi All Stars, and the worst thing is that I lived in Mississippi for from 2000-2005. They are on my list though, and will not miss the next decent chance I have.

Thanks for the great greetings!
