Welcome everyone! Have fun here! Just so you know at 15 posts you become "vested" as a member and things open up to you like PM's Private Messages.

Another area I'd like to point to is the Events section which appears in the Community area beneath the Observation Bar section. This area used to open up at 15 posts in the past, I am not sure if it does that still.

Anyway, the thing is when you look thru the events section you will see that we have a number of things going on that have some sort of Vintage Theme. Some are events that are put on by other organizations and Lounge members have posted them as fine events to attend. We also have Fedora Lounge focused events that are put on by members.

I suggest a regular perusing of the Events section to see if there is anything that is close to you that you may get to meet your fellow Loungers. Out this way in Los Angeles we try get together pretty regularly and have all sorts of fun.

At some point you may consider listing some events local to your area. You never know who'll turn up!

In the future you may be able to consider to do a little traveling and tie in an event listed in the Fedora Lounge with your travels. As a matter of fact, some people that travel, will post a thread like: I'll be in New York City or Chicago etc. from May 1st to May 5th, anyone want to get together? You'll find that there is a good chance if there are locals someone will jump up and say, I'll show you around the town.

OK! I've been lurking for awhile & figured it was time to introduce myself. I'm a Rockabilly guy doing my best to live a vintage lifestyle in this modern world. I collect Tiki, Traditional Hot Rod & Kustom stuff, Diner stuff, photos of forgotten WWII servicemen, Kitchenware, Barware, Vintage Clothes, etc. I listen to Rockabilly, Doo Wop, Swing, Lounge & Blues. I own my own business selling Traditional Hot Rod & Kustom parts & I drive a mild kustom '59 Impala.

Welcome Rick! I havent posted on here in awhile. Thats a nice ride you have in the pic. I too enjoy collecting vintage photo's- black and white, clothing and everything from the 40's 50's era. I'm decorating my new pad in this style- just taking me awhile to find things here and there. I actually just found an old barbershop display case- that I am going to display my pomade collection in... my girlfriends thinks that's crazy but I think its cool

I don't think I ever introduced myself here. I came here to read about formal dress mostly and then branched out. I'm not necessarily interested in vintage per say or even hats, but classic and timeless men's fashion. (and I love looking at the womens fashion, and the incredibly beautiful women here)

I live in the Seattle area, own a business teaching firearms and self defense, am in Special Forces NG and work as a contractor for the DoD.

I do WWII reenacting, and like old stuff, if its old stuff that's made to last and high quality. New stuff is fine too if it will last 100 years or more. So though not “vintage” like some people here, I am very interested in how people lived in times gone by. As a lady friend said to me, “you would like it to be 1950 with the internet”, though I might pick 1940 or even 1930 to start with and age into 1950.

I love wearing suits and tuxedos, but since they are not appropriate for my work, I have to find reasons and places they are appropriate(and I sometime wear them when they are not, like just showing up to the bar in them)

Now I'm looking at making my casual wear much more classic. Trying to get away from REI, which is hard for an original Seattle-ite who has been shopping there since 1980 or so.

Would love to learn to partner dance (all types, but especially swing) so dressing better goes with that.

I buy a lot of clothes from ebay and have made a few great scores from goodwill and salvation army ($3500 tuxedo, $2000 British suit) Now I am not only adding to my wardrobe but getting rid of half of it. It's not just does it fit and is it cool, but does it work and does it fit into a “style” I am trying to achieve.

That's the basics I guess.

This is the natural progression, I think, of many of us. It starts with one or two vintage pieces and then one day you seriously evaluate your entire closet because it just doesn't match where your head is going. Definitely post some of those tuxes.

New member, just got signed up today. Am enjoying looking around, have already found a number of interesting links to follow up on later. My interests are many but I'd have to say aviation (former military pilot), riding (eventer), old autos, well, just about everything.

One thing I've noticed so far- I frequent other sites of interest and have found there are always a few irritable members who seem to enjoy arched putdowns and outright bullying. I've seen nothing of that here, so well done! I suppose a more civilized demeanor is in line with a group of people interested in a more civilized time.

I am enjoying sticking out like a sore thumb here in southeast Texas. Not yet with vintage clothes, just my Stetson Lodi. I think I'm the only guy in town wearing a real, non-western hat. But I love it. I know it looks good. Better yet, my wife thinks it looks good.

And I love reading the FL everyday. The people here are very interesting, encouraging and quick to share what they know. I've had a number of questions about fitting and choosing hats, but I haven't had to post a question yet because the answers are already in the FL somewhere!

Nice, an introduction thread! It's always a bit awkward to instinctively try to introduce myself in every thread I post in... perhaps that's just me, though. Either way, getting that all out of my system now...

I'm Steven, age 21 and residing in the heart of Pennsylvania.

I listen to swing, jazz, or early rock n' roll (with some oldies) all the time. But mostly swing, which I also play on harmonica and a couple other inexpensive instruments.

I wear a fedora or trilby daily. Nothing fancy, just what I find out shopping or get from my parents. I make sure to follow the old rules of hat etiquette, and find myself drifting always closer to wearing formal/classic-on-the-cheap clothes daily.

As my name & avatar suggest, I volunteer at a trolley museum, because of a larger belief that America needs to use its railroads more. (That's a vintage idea whose time has come again, isn't it?) I'm hoping I can do something truly productive for the rail industry after college.

Finally, I love to write, learn, and chat with friends, so the Lounge is perfect for me. Maybe I'll share a few '40s-ish true-life stories that I've had the pleasure of living and writing down. And, partly thanks to the Lounge, I'm trying to use classic expressions or phrases in ordinary conversation. I might sound a bit square elsewhere, but not in this joint! :cool2:

Yes, when I get back to the States I'll try to get some good pictures. I live in/by very affluent areas, so there are a lot of housewives cleaning out their husband’s closets. It’s not unusual to find Brooks Brother, etc stuff with the tags still on them at goodwill. I’m a very standard 44R but wear a 32” or so inseam, which appears to be 2”-4” longer than most suits I find. My waist is now at 30” so that mean more work. The good thing is I like uncuffed pants a lot, so I can salvage some suits.

My tuxedo is a Dior, and it’s pretty damn incredible looking if I say so myself. Of course being obsessive I have 4 tuxedos and one set of BB tails (ebay <$150) back when Bing was doing big cashback I used my refunds to get a RL velvet tuxedo like the one Le Chiffre wore in Casino Royale, grosgrain, single breasted, peaked lapel, getting a shirt like he wore has not been easy. (black, turn down color, flat front, studs, French cuffs)

Of course in the last year I’ve lost 4-5” of my waist so I need to take everything to the tailor, which is good as most my stuff was at max capacity. Now I have the waist to go with a tuxedo as cool as the Dior.

I sometimes buy for half off of retail but mostly wait until I find the item for <25% of retail. My anti-consumerism beliefs, and the fact I’m part Irish, keep me away from paying retail for anything.

I am slowly trying to replace everything with the best made, not with the most expensive or highest fad brand, and trying to find items so classic and well made they will last me entire life. I’m becoming torn on Burberry as I think some of their stuff has a really great style, but has become so popular lately I don’t want to be part of that crowd.

This is an interesting forum.

When I lived in Portland in the 70's - 80's, my crowd of friends would have populated this forum.

We were thrift store aficionados, going on road trips up and down the west coast to all the small towns, picking up all the things that are celebrated here.
We were playing in punk bands, making records and putting on shows on our own, sharing houses and really enjoying life.

That's me, wearing the Dobbs and argyle gabardine jacket.


Finding these clothes and old things was easy and cheap, and it was a point of pride to find the obscure and cool for the lowest cost.

I kept it all and have a basement full of stuff. It's organized and well stored. I'll post some photos as I can, and tell more stories.

Yes indeed, that's a Johnstown Traction Co. '25 St. Louie, freshly restored as of 2007. A very nice car, I can see how companies could have made money running solid, well-designed equipment like that.

I recently joined, although I have been reading the forum for quite some time. I've been a fan of everything 40's, 50's and 60's since junior high, I'm now 23 and still feel as if I was born in the wrong era. I don't own many vintage items, other than an extensive tie collection passed down from my grandfather however, I try my best to make do with what I have for now or find modern reproductions and vintage inspired clothing.

I love big band, doo-wop, swing, rock n' roll, rockabilly and oldies in general. Not to forget to mention, I am an avid fan of vintage hairstyles.

Hello all. My name is Seldon, I appreciate an active forum about the good things in life...even if I am celebrating them 50 years late. I have been an enthusiast for quite some time, but have only been "hell-bent" more recently. I came this route via Badger and Blade wet-shaving forums, and with the love of vintage shaving technique and already an interest in the era...this has become the natural progression. I don't have many vintage selections yet, but I am more inspired by the aesthetic and mindset of the era. The "art of manliness," or rather the ways of a gentleman have become a thing of distant memory for most of society, but I for one still appreciate etiquette, manners, and all that the Golden Era stood for. I look forward to meeting new friends and learning more each day here at the Lounge. Good day!

Welcome to the Lounge, Rich (from another new Lounger)! I very much agree with what you said. It'd be nice to take the fabulous looks of the automobiles shown on this forum and put a nice 50MPG hybrid drivetrain under them. And your point on medicine/saving lives is right on the money. Allow me to throw in a "thank you" for your longtime Army service as well.

And at least when the rest of the world dresses in rags or slumber-party threads, you get extra joy out of having some class!
