I think it all started with this great picture:

I wanted a pair like that. And I found them.
My wife calls them everything from Harry Potter to John Lennon.
They are deffinately not Harry Potter - and John Lennon? What's wrong with that? Or him?

I like the top pair too. The lower pair are pretty "artsy" if you like that sort of thing, or if you run an art gallery.

I like the wire rim glasses also. They're could be 1930's,but I'd guess they are more likely 1940's. I have a similar pair that I wear occasionally:

I don't know if my wife hates them, though. I have 10 pairs of eyeglasses and if I switch to another pair she's so used to it that she doesn't say anything anymore!
