The ELC jacket looks beautiful to me.
And metal Capt. rank was worn under the collar! I've never seen that. Interesting! A nice, subtle detail.
I think the price reflects the extra work involved and that finish sets it apart from all the others out there. I don't think I'd go with a V. Hiltz name tag - but I do love the finish! It'll be the jacket I most want to see the next time I'm at RAF Duxford!
I would probably never get a "movie jacket", but this one is really quite nice. The hand finished look makes it look a bit more authentic and less like someone just sanded a new jacket.
It's been awhile since I've seen the movie. Did Hilts have captains bars under his collar?
This wasn't uncommon practice on fatigues to keep the enemy from seeing that bit of sniper-bait. Up until the Marines finally gave in to subdued rank in the field (early 2000s), we used to flip our collar rank as well.
Why an airman would have done it on a jacket that already had non-shiny rank on the shoulders is curious. Maybe just a little touch of bling for the movie?
