Ugarte...I considerd the Squatter myself but settled for the Bushman....that gray Squatter will likely be my next purchase...

after reading here for a bit, I'm somewhat different in dress....I'm a forester by education and profession and don't own a suit, blue blazer or silk tie...so hats for me are a utilitarian necessity...as are overhauls and knee high rubber boots...

Nice lid, Ugarte. So long as you're going to steam it and re-crease it, you might consider making the crown a tad taller. Right now, the hat kind of squats on your head (pun totally intended :D). In all seriousness though, given the shape of your face, a slightly taller crown might look killer. Just a thought.
Absolutely. My head has a higher crown and I agree that it seems a tad bit "squat". But maybe that's its charm? :)

See, I like the dents in the front of yours. To get that in mine, I'm going to have to get a taller crown or grind the ride off my skull. And the center crease hasn't worked at all for me in any hat.

I hear you about the snapdown in the back, but the more I look at mine the better I like it.

Good looking Squatter Dutch.

Mark, I raised the crease on my Campdraft by pushing up on the crown pinch and going up on the crease all the way around. Just a fraction made a big difference in the looks. After I did this I spritzed the crown with water and the hat crown 'set' pretty good. The Akubras are tought so you will not hurt it if you try this.
Good luck and let us know if it works for you.
'edit' thats my Campdraft in my avatar.

Thanks RBH. I've got some stuff to do this evening, but I'm itching to fire up the steamer and see what I can do with this lid.

And of course, I'll keep you posted.

What has always been tough for me is that a center dent tends to touch the top of my head, which I don't like. Still, some hats just look great with a center dent approach. My solution has been to do a crease which I refer to as a "modified center dent." I start off with a pure center dent and shape the crease a bit to create just a tad more space in the center of the crown. Then, I create an upward dent right in the middle. The result -- in wearing the hat, it has the appearance of a center dent, but the crease is not touching my head in the middle, since it is now elevated. Hope that makes sense. Here are a couple of photos to illustrate:

Hope the concept comes through in the photos. Anyway, it's something to consider as a way of making room for your high-crowned noggin and still keeping the aesthetic of a center dent...:)

Cheers,

Cat,what is the crown height on the Bushman?
I really really like the looks of it.

according to Morgan's site it is 5 1/2"....I beat it down to 4 1/4" in front and 4 3'8" in the back...this is my second hat so I hope that is what you are asking...

doesn't look like much difference between the Bushman/Squatter/Campdraft but I'm new to this game and subtle differences may escape me...

I think you are close.. i checked the site and the Bushman has a brim of over 3 inches. The campdraft is in at 2 3\4. I just may have to get a little wider brim, I usally like the 2 3\4 best.
Thanks!!!

Bushman/squatter/campdraft...all great looking hats...subtle differences....Does anyone know what other colors the Bushman comes in?[huh] I realize that DM only offers it in the dark brown...and that Hat's Direct has it, but doesn't display it or the Campdraft....either way...I'm sending off for a hat friday...still working on which one...and what Hatsdirect has to say about what they have available...:D

Jimmy, I don't like for the hat to touch the top of my head either. When I did the Squatter, it was just barely above my head. The center crease has since sunk down (something which I think is probably inevetable with a center crease), and it touches my head now. I've finally gotten used to it, and it doesn't bother me now. As long as it's just TOUCHING, and not really bearing on my head....

The Squatter is a bit shorter than the Bushman/Campdraft. The only differences really between the Campdraft and the Bushman are color, ribbon, and brim width.
