Many thanks for all of your suggestions. It seems that my stiff zip problem is fairly common with a new jacket, particularly thick leather like FQHH.

I helped alleviate the problem by simply applying graphite from a pencil. Straight away the zip moved more freely.

Yes, penicl graphite is a great one (just be careful wearing a whire shirt too soon after application). I once got trapped in a new jacket I'd just opened - pencil graphite saved me from a very expensive exit!
