My HWM is just under 27" body length and wouldn't want it any shorter for my 6'2" frame. Also like my 27.5" sleeves.

as we know, I'm the same height as you two (Fanch and Nick). Yet interestingly, when I was measured up for a roadster in Scotland a 25.5" back was suggested. I never would have gone that short myself, but I got it this week and have to say this is the best fitting jacket I've ever had. The front is just enough to cover the belt and no more, and at the back it's probably an inch or so past it. I think because I'm used to off the rack not being long enough I've always leaned towards having extra length rather than not enough. But this time I feel like what I've got is not too long and not too short. Kind of makes me a bit hesitant to take photos, just in case they change my mind

I've always measured my back length two ways when selling:
1: Just the collar seam to the bottom of the back
2: The same measurement but also including the "front" part of the jacket that dips down further than the actual back piece.

My Highwayman's back hits 27" when measured like #2.
That is, including that front overhang piece.
Without counting the "front dip" part, it is an even 26". That was the traditional way I've always measured so I felt I may have made a mistake in not inquiring as to how Aero measured its back lengths.
Regardless, I'm very pleased with the length. Any longer and the back would look funny IMO. I'm also probably being way too paranoid in regards to the jacket getting shorter as well. The front feels perfect right now, I wouldn't want it any shorter as "a bit longer" is my preference.
But those little details on how measurements are derived are very important. This jacket obsession is a game of inches.

.

I measure like 1.

so for yours to be just half an inch longer makes sense to me. Had I been ordering exclusively online I wouldn't have gone any lower than 26.5" so i'd have got one at least an inch too long

Scary how the cut/style of a type of jacket can change what measurements "work" for you.
I guess I must have gotten lucky on this one.
-jacket may have been a "bit" shorter than spec'd but ended up being better.
-cool "dark" FQHH
-no Aero logo on the zip pull. Don't ask me how I avoided that one.

Like Schitz, I also measure collar seam to the bottom of the back and just measured my HWM again, measuring a 26.5" back. I'm not sure how the patterns match up between the HWM and AL Roadster. Most prefer their HWM to fit a bit shorter in the body than I do, which would equate to a 25.5" back. I could probably live with that too. For me the critical measurement is the sleeve length and would not want anything significantly shorter than 27" sleeves. I recently sold a very nice blue label steer HWM with 26" sleeves that I was unable to tolerate due to "stork arms" fit.

Nick, I think that Aero recently dropped the Aero zippers in favor of Talon. Your brown FQHH is probably the best of Aero's hides; I much favor the brown FQHH used on my Teamster over the black vintage FQHH on my HWM.

Fanch, I loved the color of that steer hwm you had. I've seen a few pics of that dark chocolate steer floating around here and that is my favorite color. I remember them having the "blue label" too. Too bad you had to let it go, but I believe you still have your black hh one?

It's a great color, but each color is wonderful. I had actually originally spec'd it in regular black FQHH but changed my mind. In all honesty, I would have been happy either way. I just know I'm more of a "brown" guy.

does the highwayman dip lower in front? I was under the impression it was cut even with the back. How much extra hang is there?

Yep, Nick, I still have the vintage black FQHH HWM and plan to hold onto it.

Im sorry to say it but on my jacket its only the front that has gotten shorter and the back is the same.

This is due to creases in the bottom border of the jacket. I suspect it matters what one does with the jacket but for me its the sitting and also the using of jeanspockets that has made it permanentely "schrunched up" abit in the border area on each side = shorter.

About how much shorter would you say?

Can anyone add to my "body length shortening over time" question? The general consensus seems to be it doesn't, but I've seen a few people say otherwise.
Just a bit of curiosity and "paranoia" that the jacket will be too short in time... The Commies are coming.
Feel free to switch this thread to a Cold War theme instead of poultry. I don't mind :)
