Never forget a face?

We all use different portions of each side of our brains differently--aside from the ambidextrous, though, southpaws tend to use more of our "off-side brains" than right-handers as a general rule. (There are exceptions, though, so don't take me as saying it's always the case.) Ms. Cecil, you a lefty perchance?

She was goin' clockwise for me. Anon, when's your birthdate? Geminis tend to have a bit of a "split" or "dichotomous" nature...

Nop, but I've been told that I should be, if that makes sense. Quite the dizzy, arty, fantastic type.

BINGO! That's me, - so how do you proceed then? Saying aloud Hello! Aaaaaah, ooooh, hmmm... you are from... this is why I have the AHA effect but often not the contact in order to avoid making a fool of myself. I mean it is quite embarrassing if you call the person with a wrong first name.
I recognized classmates from elementary school -family moved a lot so I had several communities and many classmates- fellow toddlers from kindergarten - sometimes I even get the name - the next day!* [huh]

But at times I instantly get the name with the face I go and greet - I had also nice conversations.

*The Hausmeister effect: when you could brilliantly repost to the joke only one day later walking down the stairs...

So you've got a weird same-side dominance--I can relate: put my brain under the scope and you see this weird checkerboard of usage across both sides, aside from the frontal lobe which is flatlined. (Paranthetically, development of ability to use the offside-brain effectively is one of the key tools in President Obama's bag of tricks.*)
*Not political, neurobiology and psych comment. Trust me, speaking from experience there are few teachers in these two fields more effective than having a condition that places you outside "the norm"... lol

Anyway, back to the original question of the thread:

the reason I put the link to the dancing girl is part of the original thread. Do we either remember people or not due to our left or right brain capabilities?
I am sure many factors come into play.

Is that a fancy way of saying the president is left handed?

I'm not great at faces and names. It really depends on how important remembering them is to me.

Also, I'm not sure if it's shyness and a tendency not to look at people's faces too often, but different make-up or hair will totally throw me off.

No, it's not about left-hand or right-hand at all (even though he is another southpaw), but about his high degree of offside use period. Granted, it'd be more impressive if he were a righty...

The frontal-flatline (which I'm not saying is the case there, if anything I think he, like most people, relies on it too much) is from a different condition at work with me, and has nothing to do with handedness, aside from that both tie to the brain and which sections of it are used more or less than others.

Oh yeah, I've got one of those, whatchacallit there, pornographic memories. Yeah, that's it. :D

------

But seriously, folks.

Notice how many of us are challenged to remember names? Because I know that this nearly universal, I have no compunction about saying to someone, "I'm Gene. I know you but sorry, I can't recall the name." Never been attacked for that.

A trick for remembering the names of the recently introduced is to repeat it right back to them a couple of times. "You say your name is Jim? Nice to meet you Jim." When I think to do that at a party or the like, the name usually sticks long enough for me to get through the evening.

As far as the face recognition point of the thread; I have ruined this part of my brain. For nearly 25 years I have been a professional caricature artist. In that time I estimate I have drawn around 400,000 customers. All those faces scrutinized for each feature for a period of about five minutes per person - and all of them in addition to the usual number of people one meets in a lifetime. At this point, it's all a blur to me and I have increasing difficulty determining if I've met someone or not when I see them.

Yeah, that's me as well. I usually make some feeble attempt to ignore the person, but it's so hard to resist stealing glances at someone you recognize, and I probably end up looking like a creep to the other fellow.

I have a knack for remembering trivial details, and it seems to make people uncomfortable sometimes.

*Curse my superior memory skills!*

I'm good with faces, but not names. I get unnerved when people I didn't actually meet--bartenders, doormen, waitresses, etc, remember me if they've only seen or met me once. I know they just are gifted with better memories than mine, but I am still creeped out by it.

I'm not good faces in real life, but awesome at recognising actors and picking what other shows I've seen them in... (i.e. husband in one episode of Law & Order is victim in an episode of Criminal MInds, etc.)

I think the latter half of that is a universal truth for people.

You have no idea how many other shows one can find actors from "Slings and Arrows" and the new "Battlestar Galactica" series in! :)

Although I swear that I've seen the guy who played Alan Wilson in Day 7 of 24 somewhere else, but IMDB disagrees with me.

Working with the Public; I have met alot of people and see the same customers everyday almost, there are still a few that I cannot remember their names for the live of me.Working where I do there are alot of common last names....like the Smiths, The Johnsons, the Stewarts( which I should remember because it is my last name lol). I of course never let on that I forgot their name....I merely ask their Date of Birth...to verfiy addresse of course.
