Naperville Train Crash Remembered

Ran across this article this morning in the SunTimes. Thought it was particularly interesting since the main remembrances are from a female Marine who was on site to help immediately after the crash and the fact that most of the train was loaded with returning servicemen.

Long Island RR hit a bad patch in 1950

Tragedy struck in 1950--twice. Two train wrecks nine months apart killed 111 people. The LIRR went into bankruptcy. This toll was about 2 1/2 times that of Illinois crash. That the earlier crash killed so many service men who had survived the War lends great poignancy to the IL tragedy.
