Definitely American, I'm pretty sure that stick and those pedals are Curtiss.

I'll take a swipe at Curtiss Hawk.

(Just read ALL of the posts above and I know I'm wrong now!! I was convinced, too)

I was confused by the stick. On this side of the pond, Harvards have a spade grip! That's my excuse and I'm a-sticking to it.

Correct! But the Sk 14 was never a Harvard so I'm not quite sure how to apply your spade grip excuse. lol

Looks like a Granville Brothers product, specifically a Model Y or a Junior Sportster with the windscreen removed.

...it's got the right paint scheme, bracing wires and headrest, at least.

Correction: It's a Gee Bee Z, specifically NR77V, City of Springfield.
