Ahh ok. Sounds like you are looking at some good options. I am the same size and Like my Pike Bros size small. It is certainly as authentic as Buzz or RM but a good jacket at a fair price.

Really!?!?!?! You must have one that was custom made, as none I have seen can stand up to that claim. Please post photos in closeup detail of your coat, most especially the zipper, zipper end box, the fabric, label, and alpaca. Unfortunately, there are key elements that cannot be discerned without having the coat in hand, but I, for one, would love to see this heretofore-unknown specimen. Thank you.

Nope just a case of the fingers typing slower than the brain is moving. I meant certainly NOT as authentic.

Oh, I know that so well. My fingers are like a sprinter and, sometimes, my brain is still adjusting its jock strap in the lockers.

Big fan of the N1 design, haven't tried RMC or BR but I really liked my iron Heart N1. Sizing seems to vary between seasons for them though

I have noticed that N-1 style/inspired jackets seem to be quite in fashion with retailers from the Gap, J. Crew, etc. right now. Not saying these guys offer "options" just seems to be a style the mainstream is using for "inspiration".

It does seem to suddenly be en vogue. I very much like the PIke Bros myself. It's definitely close enough in look for me (I don't prize all-out accuracy enough to pay the big bucks for, as opposed to quality as a garment; I'm not a re-enactor). Over-engineered if anything but then durability was always the big attraction of military styles for me. I think I maginally prefer the green over the navy, but if I ever buy one I'll probably end up going navy as I also have my eye on their B15. I like the loose-fit of the N1s; plenty of room to layuer. Nothing worse than shivering in a Winter coat because you can't layer properly under it, or being too hot in it becasue it's too warm to wear over just a shirt on milder days....

I've had a few N-1s. The first one I glommed out of the gear locker on the USS Trathen and it was in pretty good shape. They were still around in the mid-60s and were referred to as "the ones with the fur collar" instead of the newer A-2s mentioned above. Skip forward 50 years I now call them N-1s and have two of them: One from ATF which I stenciled up with Marsh stencils and a "U.S.N." that I had custom made from FJ Smith and it looks pretty good as a "beater jacket" and another from SMW which is very much like the originals from the Navy. Made with the correct heavyweight olive-khaki Bedford cloth and real wool alpaca lining and collar which I am now thinking about aging up. Since this one is by far more accurate I want to be more "period correct" with how I apply the "U.S.N." on the chest. Does anyone have the definitive answer as to how the ones from the 40s were applied? Stencil? Iron-on? or other?

Anyone who can ID this deck jacket?
It does not look a vintage piece, so I'd like to know the brand name.
Why am I looking for this exact jacket?
-it's not as bulky as some other repro on the market
-it looks short, which is a Plus for me as I'm not very tall and a longer jacket would cut even more my legs.
I've to admit the actor Gosling is tall and with narrow shoulders, so he can wear a small size and this is the outcome.
I'm not that tall and I've wide shoulders, so my focus is always on brands that make a shorter cut and this jacket seems on the short side.
It has a kind of patch on the front lower part....if it may help to ID the brand.
I'm also hunting for a period ( vintage) N1 both for having an authentic piece and also cause the jackets from that period better match with my proportions: most of those vintage N1 are shorter than the current repro for the same size tag

No, the lining is wool and is quite warm. The Navy knows how to do outerwear.
In October I gave the above response that the lining was wool. This is probably incorrect.

In light of @Kowaco's post (#6) of the tag showing the liner is nylon, I need to rethink my statement. His label clearly states the lining is nylon. My label has no such information. I always thought it was wool because of the texture of the lining and the warmth of the jacket. But my cleaning instructions are almost the same as the label posted by @Kowaco —Wash in hot water (120—145) and do not dry clean. If the lining were wool, or alpaca, we would not be advised to wash in hot water; we would be told to dry clean only. Washing in hot water would shrink a wool liner beyond redemption. It would have no effect on a nylon lining.

A close examination of the lining of my jacket shows it could be nylon, contrary to my previous opinion. Also, there is little to no wear on the lining, which is not what we would expect with wool or alpaca.

The lining material is designed to trap body heat, and my jacket is fitted to the body. It has side adjusters and storm cuffs to cut down on the transfer of air within the jacket. This design makes it a warm jacket, which is probably why I thought it had a wool lining.

Sorry to have given what was probably an incorrect answer in my prior post. It just shows that even the most perfect amongst us can make one mistake in 14 years and 4500+ posts. Hope I can go another 14 years without a mistake.
