Good choice! did you hear the Army's zoo lions at night?

I thought that was just me snoring...   :D

Those photos of the central square are great -- do you have any more? If I remember correctly, if you continue down the street from the presidential residence, there are some amazing churches with truly astounding carvings ornamenting the facades and doors. Just beautiful...

Cheers,

You're absolutely right. Down that street there are some of the most amazing churches in the continent. La compañia de Jesus one of them. Here, more pics of the presidential square and the church.

That's the cathedral and the huge aluminum sculpture of La Virgen del Panecillo all the way in the back.

I was lucky to coincide with the presidential salute. VP in his stead as I learned the president was in Belgium.

The Hat...

A fine Cuenca from Homero Ortega, back-woven brim edge (none of their cuencas were folded and sewn). Came with a pug but I just finished sewing the new ribbon I made.

You guys are killing me with your photos. We're planning to spend next summer in Ecuador. If I could find a job that wouldn't mislead me, I'd stay longer. My wife would move back tomorrow if we could.

You can't find a decent Montecristi in Quito. You can find nice ones in Guayaquil, but at twice the price than in Manabi Province.

Also, Ortega is a great place to visit in Cuenca. You can meet one sister in the store, and the boss sister will meet you if you only ask...and they give a nice tour of their place....and they have a vault full of the finest hats........ and.......

Yeah, they told me in Quito that the place in Cuenca is a bit of a museum. Next time I'll definitely go.
