My New Premiere Highwayman in Dark Maple Bainbridge

First off, big thanks to Carrie at Thurston Bros. You've heard it before but it's all true ... professional, helpful, and very patient as I went through all the usual trials trying to decide on my first custom Aero. Highly recommended.

And it was worth it. Here's my Premiere Highwayman in dark maple bainbridge. It was a long wait due to COVID, but I'm very happy with the fit and finish. Went with the straight yoke across the back and a significant taper from chest to waist. Added a custom tartan liner as well as interior pocket.

I was worried the bainbridge might be a tad too shiny, but it's already toning down as I break it in. Speaking to that, the leather breaks in quite easily (even just rolling it up and opening it back up creates some texture). I'm mostly just wearing it as much as I can.

Nice jacket! I'm not familiar with that particular leather, but I would be surprised if it stayed that shiny for long. I wouldn't worry about it in the slightest.

I always wanted to ask the question: Does anyone know why a crease forms from the neck to the armpit? On other jackets, I did not seem to notice this only Aero

IMO it is because of poor shoulder/neckhole design.
You can see that jacket is just hanging on the neck of the wearer...
It's an Aero trademark (some models do it more than other, and it is worst on some body types), personally it gives me neck/backpain quickly.

a bit wild on the back panel, would make interesting back creases once the leather sets in.

I seriously considered that leather but there just were not a lot of real life photos back when I ordered my Seven.

The shoulder creasing is due to the fact that you have sloping shoulders. I agree with Carlos that the Aero patterns are more for square shouldered people, of which I am not. Mine has slight creasing in Vicenza. It is actually worse on my right side where an old shoulder injury has caused my right shoulder to roll forward a bit more than my left.

I think that the creases will start to ease somewhat as the jacket breaks in and molds to your frame. Mine has already started to ease.

Well done! Congratulations on your first custom! I hope we will get to see updates on this post as you wear the jacket. How character develops in leather is one of my favorite things. To me it keeps a record of your time together.

Looks like pull-up leather stuffed with wax, hence the shine. Turns lighter color when you bend it due to wax being moved around. I love those leathers.

Does anyone know which tannery is supplying these Bainbridge leathers Thurston Bros offers?

Is it veg, chrome, or combo tanned?

Not every Aero. I've only had one Aero (out of several) that did this and oddly enough it was also a Premiere Highwayman. But it also had the big crease in that spot on one side straight out of the box when I received it before I even put it on, so it wasn't from wearing it

What did you end up doing? I'm hoping it'll settle over time. Would hate to have to send it back (if they can even fix it!)

I wore it for about a year and ended up selling it. Not because of the crease, but because I got it in CXL FQHH which is a very stiff unforgiving leather, and I didn't like the combination of the narrow neck hole and that stiff leather. It wasn't comfortable for me. Just personal preference. I have that same collar/neck hole cut on another jacket, but it's Vicenza which is softer and more forgiving so it's not an issue for me on that particular jacket. In regards to the crease, it is what it is. Wasn't crazy about it but I wouldn't ditch a jacket that I otherwise love because of that. For some it's a non-issue. But I didn't notice it going away with wear if that's what you're wondering about. My experience with lines and creases etc is that they are a part of the jacket and don't go away. If anything they become more prominent over time

I’m not sure how it’s related to the neck hole or if the size matters with regard to this crease or not. My STH has a massive neck hole and does creases like this too:

Yeah I figured. Seems like poor taste IMO to screen grab another members pic and use it as an example of a “problem”. Different story if it’s your jacket...or if the owner themselves posted it. I suppose if the owner was complaining about this “issue” it’s ok to repost? Not sure.

I would also say that I don’t think this is a pattern specific phenomenon. I’m sure it’s not prevalent on every sheene... You can see it clear as day in my Aero CR above but not at all in another Aero CR I also owned.
