I've been in Joel's shoes a dozen or so times with vintage leather jackets I've picked up on eBay. I'm in the camp that says better to start over than to live with it with regret! The more it's kept, and you are allowed time to fret over it, the more it drives you crazy. At least that's my two pesos.

Joel, if I were you, though, I wouldn't let this beauty go for any less than a grand net. But then I guess a lot depends on how soon you're trying to get another one.

Well, most of us have been there too, but there's a diff between eBay, swap meets and GW/Aero/ELC, etc. I'd like to see some pics of the jacket being worn...

Even if they were $3000 used jackets, they're not made for you!

My only point is that if it don't fit it don't fit. If Joel is anything like me, he'll just be even more bugged by trying to fix the situation with longer knit cuffs.

I say start over, mayn ;) :D

Of course. I do the same. BUT - why does someone have consistent issues getting a custom jacket to fit? I think that's the question. 99.999% of humans buy jackets off the rack and do just fine. I worries me when someone has consistent issues with bespoke. That's all.

Wow... waiting all that time for a jacket then tossing it for less than an inch on either sleeve? Seems a bit harsh to moi but I'm not much of a stickler. I'm wearing a used GW A1 today, the sleeves are way short and the chest is a little tight but she's reet pettite and more than the sum of her parts. I say give her a month... see if'n she grows on you.

Worf

When you buy made to measure of course you want it to fit well. But for me there can on occasion be something endearing about a dude wearing an item of clothing that doesn't quite fit right. Hard to pinpoint this precisely - but I think it's something about that 'make do' spirit or the fact that the guy is so blatantly unperturbed by the perceived 'imperferction' that kinda makes it cool in an anti vanity anti self obsessed way. In my book anyway.

Lionel Messi in a restaurant rocking a tracksuit 2 sizes too big is an example of what I'm talking about

Maybe you should try wearing it before you start criticizing what other people do with their own money. The jacket was unwearable. I wasn't being a prima donna, it just wouldn't fit right. I can deal with a jacket that's too tight or too loose, but I cannot deal with one that's too short. But again, when it's your money, you can follow your own advice. Since it's not your jacket, maybe you'd be better off keeping your opinion to yourself.

Only time I had to deal with that is buying a 200- Cooper G-1 in a 48 regular. I'm 6'1" and the sleeves and torso were just too short. Neil was kind enough to switch it out for a 48 long and it fit nicely. I'm actually a 46 long but I like slightly oversize or even a little too big. Short is just uncomfortable and irritating.

Joel, did you consider the possibility that not a single word of that was written with you in mind?

Re: me keeping my opinions (and presumably observations too - which is all that was) to myself. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that the forum concept probably works better if I don't.

Re: you being a prima donna - which was certainly not something I ever intended to imply - this latest post doesn't excatly dispel that image, does it old chap?

It does seem that the longer some banter back and forth on a forum..their sense of importance..along with ego has built up to confirm to them that anything they post is actually really beyond criticism. Any attempt (in their mind) requires a return slap in the face..but of course. Nice...

HD could you be a bit more vague please. As this is, it runs the risk of upsetting poor Joel again.

As for me, if you've any feedback on my contributions, just say it. No need to be aloof. I certainly won't throw a hissy fit and tell you to shut up and go away.

And in the spirit of 'doing' as I 'say', here's a little for you. I think this policy you have of regularly providing a commentary on any bit of aggro that goes down between other members is fairly lamentable. It's as though you, old father time, consider yourself above and beyond such antics, yet in providing these ignorant commentaries you actually perpetuate disputes. In other words, you choose to take up a position (you don't have to) - and even if that's only intended as one that looks down on its participants (how very noble) the simple act of doing just that makes you one of them! Ya dig? Of course, if you actually were above getting involved in such capers you'd simply ignore these kind of skirmishes altogether, without feeling the need to explain anything - yet repeatedly that isn't the road you head down.

What's more, you've been known to be quite snarky yourself, and it's not even as if your crankiness is even handed. Not so long ago we used to hear from Wade - a good guy I thought, with a wealth of good info - yet after your persistent hounding (and sure, you had accomplices) we now only ever hear from Carrie. Meanwhile others continually big up the exact same product and you say diddly squat???

Sure, I can be wrong sometimes or make a mistake, same as anyone else on here can. But if I did, then instead of trying to explain the inner workings of my mind why not just help a brother out and flat out say what it was? Have I said something ambiguous today? Cos I certainly wasn't trying to upset him. I wasn't even talking about him!!

Bottom line, this is a place for opinions. It's a forum. If opinions (and I'm talking about opinions and opinions alone, not insults or abuse) are likely to upset you then I put it to you you're in the wrong place. In here, if you've something to say, say it. After all, we're all grown men. Those among our number that aren't should get out of the kitchen!

The problem with a custom-tailored fit is that either it's perfect or it doesn't fit. The temptation is to make it fit perfectly, which means there is no room for error. I've ordered countless garments in my regular size (XL) and they've almost all fit me, but again a general-sized garment is made with room for error. The problem with custom items is compounded by the internet. It's hard enough making a custom garment when the tailor is measuring you in the store. And of course, you can return an XL. You can't return a custom jacket unless it's Langlitz. My initial impression was that it fit, but that was before I started moving around much and realizing that something wasn't right. It wasn't a cosmetic issue. I just didn't feel I could comfortably function in this jacket over the longer term. It happens. It wasn't a big deal, I didn't ask for a new jacket. I just wanted to sell it and move on.

HD, I gave my exact measurements. This is a game of inches and half-inches. Personally, I was surprised myself that 26.5" wasn't long enough. My usual sleeve length is 26". But if the torso is snug and there's no pleat in the back, you need extra length. Plus the A-2 in general is an uncomfortable design to begin with. Anyway, it's not as big a deal to me and it is to others. I don't know why and don't care.

As for wear pics, I don't need to convince anybody that it fits except myself and I don't want to keep re-living this utterly irrelevant issue. And I don't want to have to borrow a camera again just to prove to anyone that I was right. Right or wrong, I want to move on.

Meanwhile, the jacket is listed again for $750.
