My largest vintage purchase so far!

After 10 years of marriage DH and I are buying our first home.
We are getting this house built in 1940. It still has it's original wooden cabinets in the kitchen. I will take more pictures of the inside when we move in the end of the month.

Hey Cherry Red, some of my family is from Ft. Smith. What street is that house on? I used to live on Bradley. My aunt and uncle still live on P St.:)

Congratulations Cherry! The house looks incredible, and what an incredible backyard. It certainly looks as though the previous owners really took care of it. I wish you and your hubby all the best in your new home:)

Your new vintage purchase certainly says, “there’s no place like home”.

Everyone’s commented on the house, but I have to comment on that huge "tree". It’s a beauty and will certainly provide some fine shade. Needs some pruning though, and I would just play it safe by having an expert check it out prior to the final closing.

I agree, I have a large tree in my front yard in close proximity to the house and it keeps the entire front of my house cool. The tree was planted in 1914 and it's lovely. But, I second the pruning recommendation from experience. When you have tree branches touching the side of the house, they can damage your siding or roof. When the wind blows, which can be very often, the branches scratch against the house.

It really is a lovely little house. I'm quite jealous!

I can't tell you how many times when I've watched shows like "Flip that House" or "Curb Appeal" (and the like) where the house will have a nice big tree in front and they chop the whole thing down instead of even attempting to prune or shape the tree first. Must be a peeve of mine because I find it always irks me quite a bit.

Sure, sometimes there are legitimate reasons... might be too close to the house, the roots might damage water pipes, etc... but often they do it just so you can see the house more from the street. Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather look out my window and see a tree instead of a street... at any rate, I think my point was I'd rather find a landscaping compromise that didn't end in the fatal demise of a well established tree, in those situations.

Lovely house.
Me too about ripping up trees. Pet peeve for sure. Then sometimes on Flip this house you will see one bringing in a giant tree which is refreshing.
I have tons of trees and it helps immensely with electric bills in hot Texas summers. I learned the hard way when newly married. Had about a 1100 sq.ft. house out in a prairie with only 2 trees up on front of property. Old windows that let out all the air conditioner. Nearly starved to death paying the $300.00 electric bills every month. I now live in a prosperous area with so much growth and now see them come in and sell all the old oaks and hardwoods and pines (big money in trees) that are at least 70 years old, build a building and then plant tiny oak saplings. :eusa_doh:
All these shows drive me batty when they crush perfectly good windows or cabinets or whatever.
They need to at least give the stuff to freecycle.org or local Habitat for Humanity or something.
