My attempt at an Aviator hat

So I wanted a Howard Hughes Aviator type hat. I don't know how accurate it is to reality, but I really liked this one

So I contacted JW, and selected the colors: Pecan / Saddle Brown felt, Chocolate ribbon, specifying a 9 ligne brim binding and 16 ligne ribbon.

This is what I got. I like the colors very much, but I worry the crown might be too short for my face. Tell me what you think please.

I really like that one 1911.:eusa_clap While I think you wear a taller crown really well this new one doesn't appear too short to me.[huh] The coloring is fantastic

The brim width is 2 1/2". It was 5 1/2 " open crown, with bash the front is about 4 1/2", the back a hair under 4".

I agree. While you easily wear a taller crown, this one doesn't look too short. The color combination is terrific. That's a nice hat.

While I like a 2 3\4 brim better, this one looks OK to me. What type crease do you have?
Sometimes a center dent can make a hat appear to have more of the dreaded
taper.
You might try a diamond crease.

I agree that you could go taller but that it looks fine. I also suspect that the lighting on head on shot makes it look rounder on top than it probably does in reality. But perhaps RBH's observation is on target ...

So I appreciate all your nice comments. However, even if the hat looked nice, it wasn't exactly what I wanted. So I went back to JW, and asked him to make it a bit taller. So now it is creased at 4 3/4" front and about 4" at the back (gives it a nice upward rake). I think it is a substantial improvement. Here it is updated.

Hi,

I missed this the first time. I have to say, I like it better now. And I think it is more faithful to Di Caprio's pic, too (it is interesting to mention I had saved that very reference pic for me, too; you have beaten me! ;) )

The colour combo is very attractive. That pecan looks like a brown with a greenish shade to it in my monitor. Is that so?

Regards!

Thast is it! It looks super now, I know I have made a crease before and went back and raised the front a little and made all the difference.
You got it now and its one sweet looking hat!!!!

Yes, that pretty much sums it up. It looks much more brown in the sunlight, but takes on the more greenish hues in the artificial, indoor light.
